Triumph Motorcycles Arriving in India in November

Thu, 01 Aug 2013

It’s a year behind schedule, but Triumph announced it will introduce its motorcycles to India by November. The British manufacturer had been gearing up for an Indian launch for over two years now, initially planning to enter the market in 2012. No reasons were given for the delay, and the sudden departure of Triumph Motorcycles India Managing Director Ashish Joshi didn’t help, but Triumph finally appears ready to start up operations in India.

“2013 is a very crucial year for Triumph Motorcycles in India and as a company, we are confident about the timing of our market entry,” says Paul Stroud, Triumph director of sales and marketing. “In the past few months, we have carefully assessed the market landscape and will be making well-honed efforts to provide our discerning customers with a complete brand experience.”

Triumph is nearing completion of a new plant in Manesar, India, which will assemble complete knock-down kits. The next step is to establish a dealer network.

Taking point is Vimal Sumbly, former general manager of sales at Bajaj Auto, who replaces Joshi as managing director of Triumph Motorcycles India.

“I am delighted to have joined Triumph as the brand looks to embark on a well phased out strategy for the Indian market,” says Sumbly. “Our commitment of developing truly iconic motorcycles that are distinctive in looks, design and performance remains ever-present. Soon Indian customers will be able to experience these category-winning machines on Indian roads, as the brand looks to elevate the motorcycling paradigm.”
