EICMA 2012: Ducati Diavel Strada Revealed

Mon, 12 Nov 2012

Ducati is introducing a new touring-oriented version of its already genre-twisting Diavel sports cruiser. Unveiled at the 2012 EICMA Show in Milan, Italy, the new Ducati Diavel Strada joins the base Diavel, the Diavel Dark and the Diavel Carbon in Ducati‘s 2013 lineup.

The Ducati Diavel Strada adds a larger seat, touring windscreen, heated grips, revised rear lighting assembly, higher-output generator and two auxiliary power outlets for additional accessories.

The new seat is larger and with revised cushioning Ducati says should make for a more comfortable ride for long distances. With the windscreen offering better wind protection, Ducati was able to raise the handlebars by 0.6 inches and sweeping back 2.36 inches toward the rider to offer a riding posture better suited for touring. Passenger comfort has also been addressed with a back rest, grab rails and revised foot peg to fit around the 41-liter saddlebags.

The Strada is otherwise similar to the other Diavels, with the 240 rear tire, 4.5 gallon fuel tank, traction control, multiple ride modes and Ducati’s 1198cc 11-degree Testastretta V-Twin engine claiming 160 hp at 9500rpm and 94 ft-lb. at 8000rpm. Suspension is comprised of fully-adjustable 50mm Marzocchi upside-down forks and Sachs monoshock.  The Diavel is also equipped with ABS, with Brembo supplying radial-mount four-piston monobloc calipers.

The extra equipment pushes the Diavel Strada up to a wet weight of 540 pounds, compared to 527 pounds for the base Diavel and Dark versions and 516 pounds for the Carbon version.

The 2013 Ducati Diavel Strada will be available in a Race Titanium Matte color with black frame and wheels. The Strada version is priced at $19,495, slotting it below the $20,495 Diavel Carbon and above the $18,995 base Diavel and $17,695 Diavel Dark.
