A Closer Look a the New 900cc Husqvarna Streetbike

Wed, 15 Jun 2011

Husqvarna will enter the twin-cylinder market in 2012 with a variation of the F800 powertrain from Husky’s parent company BMW, enlarged to around 900cc. This supermoto-styled version will undoubtedly be accompanied by a more dirt-worthy adventure-touring model.

The test mule seen in these photos appears to use several components from the BMW F800R, including its swingarm and wheels. Husqvarna will substitute a tubular steel frame in place of the BMW’s perimeter-aluminum chassis. A beefy inverted fork carries 4-piston radial-mount brakes.

The motor’s upper cylinder and head don’t match the black crankcases, a visual clue to its bigger displacement from the F800, probably with larger dimensions for both bore and stroke. The mule’s right-side case cover still has the “BMW” stamp on it.

With Husqvarna likely producing at least two versions of its new platform, it will be interesting to watch how they’re positioned around BMW’s F800 platform.
