2014 WSBK Provisional Entry List – 27 Riders and 9 Manufacturers

Thu, 30 Jan 2014

The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) released a provisional entry list for the 2014 World Superbike Championship. The provisional list includes 27 riders riding motorcycles from nine different manufacturers.

Of these riders, 12 are riding in the new EVO sub-category which limits engine upgrades and electronics to Superstock class rules. The other 15 are riding the unlimited Superbike sub-category which will be phased out by the 2015 WSBK season.

The nine manufacturers represented are: Aprilia, Bimota, BMW, Ducati, Erik Buell Racing, Honda, Kawasaki, MV Agusta and Suzuki. Bimota, MV Agusta and EBR are the newest manufacturers to enter the series. EBR will field the all-American lineup of Geoff May and Aaron Yates on the 1190RX. MV Agusta returns to the series with the Claudio Corti riding the F4 RR. Meanwhile Bimota intends to enter Christian Iddon and Ayrton Badovini on the new BB3, but the BMW S1000RR-powered superbike is still subject to homologation.

Speaking of BMW, the German manufacturer still has a presence on the grid with three S1000RR despite the withdrawal of its official factory team.

Apart from BMW, all of the other manufacturers are fielding factory teams, including Ducati which last entered a factory squad in 2010. All of the factory teams will field two riders except for MV Agusta and its lone rider Corti, and Kawasaki which is adding David Salom alongside reigning champion Tom Sykes and Loris Baz. Salom will be the first rider to race on a factory-backed EVO machine.

The 2014 WSBK Championship begins Feb. 23 at Australia’s Phillip Island circuit.
