2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 Recalled for Engine Stalling Issues

Transport Canada has announced a recall for the 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 because of a risk of the engine stalling during deceleration. No recall has yet been posted for the U.S. though the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website, though members of the KawasakiNinja300 forum report they received letters from Kawasaki Motor Corps. U.S.A. about a recall. (UPDATE: a recall has been posted by NHTSA, affecting 11,097 units in the U.S.)

NHTSA had been conducting an investigation into the Ninja 300 after receiving several complaints from owners. Of the 36 complaints on NHTSA dating as far back as Feb. 22, owners reported engines stalling when pulling the clutch lever to slow down or downshift. One of those complaints reports the rider was hit by another vehicle after the engine stalled, fracturing a shoulder.

Several members of KawasakiNinja300 forum (a part of the Motorcycle.com forum network) have also reported similar problems.

Dealers will remedy the issue by installing a new engine control unit (ECU). The recall affects 745 units in Canada. We’ll have more information about the problem including how many units in the U.S. are affected when NHTSA posts a recall on its website.
