Yamaha XS description

 1974 Yamaha TX650 Electric Start
Recently brought up to flawless mechanical condition, this unrestored British-styled motorcycle is fully-operable and has been proven in daily use. Stored for 30+ years indoors, this pre-"cruiser" model Yamaha 650 2-cylinder with electric start has been well-preserved. Alternately named TX650 and XS650; in contrast to the 650 Special, this model remains nearest to the original concept of all. I can assure of the motorcycle's age and use being as low as it appears, having bought the bike from an 80+ year old grandfather who remembered the bike's history in detail. I've owned a lot of seventies-era Yamahas and have seen very few in this condition. I think you'd not be disappointed.

Five speeds provide brisk around town use and cruising at 70+ mph.
Starter operation is by electric switch or kick lever. Two petcocks supply fuel and a choke lever allows cold-start. Electric starter switch is combined with the decompression lever on the right.

Includes tool pouch and manual. Tabs  will be needed. Clean title
Recent service has included: New tires and tubes, new battery, new clutch cable, rebuilt petcocks, fresh oil change and filter, new fuel filters, carburetor clean/synchronization, brake service w/new fluid, new chain, and new fork seals w/oil. Tires are both Dunlop "Gold" K70; each are of front or rear-specific design.
Value based on condition and soundness. Flaws include scrapes at lower right pipe chrome, a chink on headlight ear and paint flaking near fuel filler cap (dribbled when overfilled).

Condition:
Finish: 8/10
Wear: 9/10
Blemish-free: 7/10
Clean: 9/10
Mechanical: 9/10

GSX-R600 and CBR250R the glass is half full

Wed, 13 Oct 2010

Suzuki’s GSX-R600 might not look that much different to the outgoing model but I suspect this bike could be very much a dark horse in 2011. I say this because two years ago I was definitely not building my hopes up en route to the K9 GSXR 1000 launch. The leaked pictures suggested the biggest change from the 2007 version would be some fresh graphics but I was so wrong.  As it turned out, I was greeted in Almeria with a brand new bike, built from the tarmac up and it proved to be more than a match in every department for the much hyped 2009 Yamaha R1.

BSB 2012; Mystic Mac investigates

Tue, 03 Jan 2012

In my opinion, the smartest move in the BSB off season has to be Michael Laverty moving from Swan Yamaha to HM Plant Honda. With a ban on electronics for 2012, and in particular traction control, WFR's Graham Gowland has already proved to Laverty how competitive an EVO spec Fireblade can be - so I’m tipping both these riders to be bang on the money at the Brands Hatch season opener in April. Unlike BMW, Kawasaki and Yamaha, Honda have deliberately developed their road-going Superbike without electronics to give a user friendly feel with good mechanical traction, so it’ll be interesting to see how the opposition copes with their high-tech trickery stripped off.
