Yamaha XS description

This came to us with gas running out the carbs.... we cleaned the carbs to get it running properly, ran it around for a bit, and gave it a bath.  The bike comes with a clean open title and one key.  The bike is not cosmetically perfect but its all there and it runs well, so it would make a great drivable bike or a nice addition to any collection.  This is a XS2.... which of coarse is known for have the "electric start" with the compression release.  I think this bike is in good/fair cometic shape with a strong motor..... here's a front to back detailed description of this bike:

Front Wheel- tire has good tread with no sidewall dry rot or cracking, rim has good chrome with a few minor rust spots, rims has surface rust but are not rusted out, front brake works fine, fork tubes look good, front fender has one minor chrome peel spot that is not flaking and one minor dent and one small scratch with overall good chrome.

Head Unit- Mirrors are Japanese but I don't know if they are original, handlebars have very slight bend with no rust, all the controls work, turn signal lenses and headlamp are not cracked, chrome lamp rim has scratches and lamp back has an abrasion, gages work with good chrome bases and no cracks

Tank- side cover and tank have original paint, inside of tank has been treated with kream or some other tank coating product, gas cap works well, has both tank badges with left badge a little cloudy, tank paint has tiny pitting marks coming through paint and minor scratches and rub spot from seat that is hidden completely by seat, side covers has tank chips that appear to have been from battery acid, side covers hold to frame well

Seat- pan is in good shape, hinge works well and lock appropriately, cover seems to be original with no tears or cracks, chrome stripping and grab bar are in good shape

Frame- frame has surface rust spots that could easily be repainted, hardware throughout the bike has rust spots that could be cleaned, replaced, painted, side stand and center stand work

Engine- Bike starts and runs, engine seems very strong when running, carbs have been cleaned and no problem with fuel system, shifts through the gears, motor is clean as apparent in the pictures

Exhaust- this is an older aftermarket two into one exhaust system.... the headers are rusty and one header has a large dent, the muffler has chrome peeling but the baffle is in good shape

Rear Wheel- same condition as front wheel

Rear Tail Section- turn signal lenses in good shape, tail light lens has crack in the middle of the lens, light brackets have some surface rust, rear fender chrome look good

All and all this bike is not a museum quality bike but it is a nice bike as a daily rider, cafe project, or somebody who just appreciates these awesome early Japanese bikes.... and how often do you come around XS2's anymore that haven't been chopped up yet?

Used: Alpinestars Joey Canvas shoes review

Wed, 11 Sep 2013

The brief I gave to my girlfriend before packing for our little California road-trip was simple: “No hair straighteners, no high-heels and no hand bags!” So, I had to honour the whole ‘packing light’ thing too ...or risk a week of abuse. I picked up these shoes as I thought they’d double as decent riding gear for the Yamaha XVS650 and Ducati Diavel we had lined up but they also looked perfect for wearing with jeans when we’d dumped the bike and were heading out to explore the sights. They don’t feature any ‘real’ armour but they are made from a tough yet flexible canvas and they feature additional protection around the ankle.
