In a year that saw Yamaha riders James Stewart, Valentino Rossi, and Ben Spies capture the perfect “trifecta” of World Championships, perhaps one of the most memorable moments for race fans around the world, was “King” Kenny Roberts’ return ride at the infamous Indy Mile in late August. Magneti Marelli to Supply Electronics System to MotoGP Teams

It’s no secret that promoter Dorna Motorsports has been trying to push a standardized electronics control unit for teams in the MotoGP World Championship. The lack of a top-tier electronics package has been one of the biggest challenges faced by MotoGP’s claiming rule teams, and a spec ECU would narrow the gap between the CRT bikes and the factory prototypes. The manufacturers competing in the series, Honda, Ducati and Yamaha, understandably are resistant to the idea considering the effort they’ve put in to develop their electronics systems.

If you live in the southern California area and are attending the Progressive International Motorcycle Show at the Long Beach Convention Center this weekend, Dec. 9-11, do everything you can to make it Friday before 5:30 as three of Yamaha’s best and brightest stars will be on hand to meet and greet fans, as well as pose for pictures. Yamaha MotoGP rider and former Yamaha World Superbike Champion Ben Spies, Monster Tech 3 Yamaha MotoGP rider and former Yamaha World Supersport Champion Cal Crutchlow, and Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha rider and two-time defending AMA Pro Racing American SuperBike Champion Josh Hayes will all be signing autographs and greeting fans at the Yamaha display.
