The 2nd generation Yamaha XP 500 TMAX was released into the USA market for the 2009 model year. The XP500 was the 2nd Yamaha maxi-scooter introduced, the 1st being the XP250 Majesty in 1996. The TMAX combines motorcycle performance with the convenience and flexibility for commuting of a scooter. The TMAX follows a large scooter configuration with a parallel-twin cylinder, counterbalanced water-cooled 499 cc, fuel-injected engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) supported by a cast-aluminium frame. The final drive to the rear wheel is a chain inside the left swingarm in an oil bath and the engine is mounted on the frame rather than on the swing arm, which is the convention on most scooters. Mon, 04 Nov 2013Yamaha teased us with the “Rise Up Your Darkness” campaign, first introducing the FZ-09 (called the MT-09 in Europe) and its three-cylinder engine packaged in a naked frame. Now Yamaha has introduced the next motorcycle in the Darkness collection, the MT-07, effectively the MT/FZ-09′s little brother. Designed to “bring fun, affordability and enjoyment back to the street,” the MT-07 is powered by a brand new, 689cc parallel-Twin with 270-degree crank incorporating Yamaha’s “crossplane philosophy” of developing linear torque for smoother power application.

Yamaha Quitting World Superbike Racing After 2011 Season
Mon, 01 Aug 2011Yamaha announced it is withdrawing its factory World Superbike Championship race team following the end of the 2011 season. The news comes as a bit of a surprise, just a week after reports the team had re-signed racer Marco Melandri for the 2012 season. On the other hand, the team has struggled to find a title sponsor this season, as has Yamaha’s MotoGP team.
