1962 Triumph TR6SS Trophy 650 twin

Classic British Iron, Rolling Project

NO RESERVE - YOU BID, YOU WIN!

This is a "bitsa" rolling project, I believe the frame is a '55 and engine is a '62. Being that it is a Triumph big twin, there is no chopping, cutting or bodging to fit the different year components together, they all bolt together easily across many years.

The bike is "pre-unit" construction, meaning the engine is in three major sections - Power unit (head, cylinders and crankcase), Primary unit (clutch and primary chain/case), and Transmission. All of these are matched as far as the engine goes. Only visible mismatch is that the engine is a later "internal" alternator type, and frame has the mounting brackets for the earlier external generator.

I rescued the bike from having a modern Japanese front end and a welded-on steel tractor seat; I've re-assembled it with an original period-correct (late 50s / early 60s) front end and seat, with some period aftermarket bits like the headlight mounts & mufflers. It is mostly original period Triumph now with very few exceptions. very much a typical example of "Brit Iron" from the good old days.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION - Good compression, single carburetor (easier to tune than duals), 4-speed transmission, single row primary chain with multi-plate clutch. As far as I know, the internals are original, but probably need overhaul.

CHASSIS & SUSPENSION - Standard telescopic forks and swingarm rear end. Not chopped or bobbed, all original mounting tabs in place. Does not appear to have been wrecked at any time. Sidestand appears to be a modified HD stand, there is no centerstand. I have two footpegs, but no hardware/spacers to install them with; I may be able to dig some up, but listing as footpeg mounting hardware not included. Forks are in decent shape, but need overhaul. Shocks are marginal.

WHEELS & BRAKES - Both wheels are in fair shape, as are the brakes. They will work as-is, but are rough looking. Tires definitely need replacement (with new tubes).

BODYWORK & CYCLE PARTS - Gas tank will need some adaptation on mounting, easily done with some metal stock and hand tools. Not sure how hard it would be to locate and/or trade for the correct tank. Seat needs the foam and a new seat cover, pan has been messed with but is rebuildable. Rear fender and chainguard are original, there is no front fender included. Headlight mounts are aftermarket, tail light mount is original. Oil tank & sidecover are mismatched, in good shape.

CONTROLS & RUNNING GEAR - I can provide low, mid or high-rise handlebars as the buyer prefers. OEM type chrome steel levers & single-pull throttle are included (not pictured) Will need all new cables. Foot controls & kicker are in good shape. Chain is fair, has an oversize rear sprocket for low end / low speed riding.

ELECTRICAL - Headlight has no bulb/lens, taillight is rough but easily replaceable (not original). Alternator, zener diode regulator, and rectifier included, assumed working. No switches are included. No battery. Magneto is intact, but missing the cap; new spark plug wires with new caps. There is no wiring on the bike. Ammeter and toggle switch are scrap.

OTHER INFO

BILL OF SALE ONLY. I can obtain a clear Texas title, but it takes time and costs money not included in this sale.

AS-IS, WHERE-IS, no warranty, no refunds. It is what it is, and what you see is what you get. I'm including plenty of photos, they are decent quality and show what's what.

SHIPPING NOT INCLUDED - I recommend Keyboard Motorcycle Shippers and/or J.C. Motors for door-to-door transportation. Shipping from south Texas 78043. I have a ramp and will load the bike in my driveway if buyer wants to pick it up locally. I will deliver as far as the Waco, Corpus Christi, McAllen or Houston for an additional fee (about fifty cents per mile, round trip).

PAYMENT TERMS - Deposit required within 24 hours of auction end. If you are going to be out of town or otherwise unable to make the deposit, DON'T BID ON THE BIKE. Full payment required within 10 days of auction end, before bike will be released to shipper/buyer. I will store the bike for up to one year at no charge. DEPOSIT IS NON-REFUNDABLE.

BOTTOM LINE - No fluff, no hype. I've been selling bikes on e-bay for almost 10 years with total satisfaction and zero claims. Since I'm starting the bidding low and there is no reserve, I have no reason to misrepresent anything about the bike. Previous owner spray painted various spots on the bike. This would make a very nice daily rider, period restoration, vintage roadracer, or period custom. Check completed sales and you'll see that the starting bid is relatively low for the completeness of the project. I honestly believe a couple of weekends' work and a couple hundred dollars could have this bike rideable, I just don't have the time to undertake another project (with a half-dozen others still waiting their turn).

Ask all the questions you want, I'll answer them as best I can. Thanx for bidding.

Top 10 EICMA Show Bikes You May Have Missed

Mon, 14 Nov 2011

Interesting motorcycles you probably didn't see1 of 11Next Last There’s no cave deep, mountain high or rock heavy enough to have thwarted news of Ducati’s 1199 Panigale superbike launch at the 2012 EICMA show in Milan, Italy. And a few models such as Honda’s NC700S and X, Kawasaki’s Versys 1000 and CRP’s Energica were unveiled without heavy prior fanfare, but gasps of surprise weren’t heard when the wraps were taken off Triumph’s Tiger 1200 Explorer, Husqvarna’s Nuda or MV Augusta’s F3 675 among others, whose existences were revealed months in advance of the show. What we’ve comprised below is our list Top 10 Bikes unveiled at EICMA that didn’t receive top billing but are certainly worthy of your attention.

New Delhi Auto Expo 2012 – Motorcycle Manufacturers Draw Battle Lines for World’s Second Largest Market

Mon, 09 Jan 2012

In past years, the biennial Auto Expo in India slipped under the radar while the industry was focused more on shows such as EICMA in Italy and Intermot in Germany. But with India’s middle class starting to flex its financial muscle while other markets continue to struggle, the New Delhi show is becoming much more prominent, with major OEMs positioning themselves to claim a piece of the India’s 13 million vehicles-a-year market. We’ve already looked at India-produced Royal Enfield’s new Thunderbird 500 and Hero Moto’s hybrid scooter concept which debuted at the Auto Expo, and today we’ll look at what the major international OEMs presented.

Triumph Street Triple Used to Test Rocket Components – Video

Fri, 04 May 2012

California-based aerospace company XCOR is using a Triumph Street Triple to test rocket components for a suborbital spacecraft. Of course, what immediately comes to mind is a giant rocket strapped on to the Triumph, but the truth is much less dramatic, yet still fascinating. XCOR is using the Street Triple for endurance testing of bearings components for the rocket propellant piston pump of the Lynx suborbital spacecraft.
