Triumph Bonneville description

This auction bid is for a 2005 Triumph Bonneville.  I am the original owner and purchased the bike new in early 2006.   The bike is stock with the exception of a Triumph accessory tachometer kit and a BellaCorse air injection eliminator kit.  Mechanically the bike is very solid, and I've never had a mechanical issue in 7+ years of ownership. I just installed a new battery  I would rate the cosmetic condition as fair to good as the bike was exposed to road salt several years ago while being trailered and there is some corrosion on the engine cases, the left exhaust pipe and one side of the front wheel.  The tank, side covers, fenders and seat are in perfect condition.  There are a couple of maintenance issues that need to be addressed as follows:

  • The tires are original and the rear tire needs replacement.  Front tire has 25-30 percent of tread remaining and probably has a year left
  • The headlight high beam is burned out and as such the headlight should be replaced (low beam works fine)

I have reflected the cosmetic issues and tire/battery needs into the reserve price, which is roughly 50% of the NADA used book value.  I purchased a new bike recently and can't afford to keep both, so this bike is priced to sell.  This is a great opportunity acquire a mechanically reliable, reasonably priced bike as a daily rider (fuel mileage is a consistent 50 mpg!) or a great platform for restoration/customization/performance work as the cosmetic issues can be easily addressed (I had planned a full restoration with new exhaust/jet kit but don't have the time).  This bike is offered as-is with no warranty.  I will provide additional information on condition as well as additional photos upon request.

I have relisted this bike due to a bidder that was not willing to pick up the bike and pay within the specified timeframe so please do not bid unless you are serious about paying and taking delivery within the specified timeframe.  This bike is for sale locally and as such the auction may end at any time.  Payment/delivery terms are as follows:

Within 48 hours of auction close the winning bidder is required to contact me via eBay messaging and specify a pickup date and time; available dates are anytime between 9/6/13 and 9/8/13 as well as 9/14/13 to 9/15/13.  No deposit is required if delivery is taken on or before 9/1/18; a $500 deposit is required if full payment/delivery occurs after 9/8/13.  Full payment is due by 9/15/13.

Wed, 06 Aug 2014

The 2014 edition of the LA Calendar Motorcycle Show continued its now 23-year tradition as the premier outdoor streetbike event in America with producer photographer Jim Gianatsis moving the show this year to the beautiful green lawns of the Malibu Golf Course among the twisty canyon roads in the Santa Monica Mountains alongside the Pacific Ocean. Highlighting this year’s exciting activities was the emergence of another new and soon to be renown custom bike builder to the sport for which the Calendar Show is known for cultivating. Taking Best of Show in this year’s Calendar Bike Building Championship was Calin Senciac’s Imagine Vehicles International / ImagineVehicles.com motorsports fabrication shop with an incredible custom billet aluminum designed chassis built by Terry Ward and the shop crew, housing a legendary 1979 Honda CBX 1047cc air-cooled in-line 6-cylinder engine.

A short film about Zen

Thu, 28 Apr 2011

This beautifully shot short film alludes to a phrase by Robert M Pirsig, the author of Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance: "If the machine produces tranquility it's right. If it disturbs you it's wrong until either the machine or your mind is changed".  But is any Triumph single ever capable of producing a sensation of tranquility, even when it is 'right'? I suspect not...
