Norton Commando description

My beautiful 1975 Norton 850 Commando Mark III is on the market.  It is in perfect running condition and I am listing her for less than she is worth to make this an easy sale.  This is one of, if not the fastest and best handling vintage bikes in the world with 0-6 mph times in the 3+ second range.  Norton motorcycles were founded in 1898 by James Norton.  To date, Norton bikes have won more GP Championships than any other manufacturer, and they have not been making motorcycles for almost 40 years.

I bought this bike about 5 years ago from an older gentleman in Sausalito, CA who worked at the Norton factory in the UK as a teenager.  He had taken great care of it and it was in excellent running condition.  Nonetheless we did a ground up overhaul of her.  The overhauls were conducted by the noted brit Bruce Galijar of Hollywood Bobbers, a specialist in ground up restorations of British motorcycles.  Brake calipers rebuilt, new vented disc brakes, and a new modern Brembo master cylinder, all new modern wiring and ignition, new gearbox, new clutch, new alloy wheels, new exhaust, new chain, new tires, rear sets, new handle bars & grips, new custom real leather seat, new lighting, new custom made steel ignition housing, and more.  The point of all the upgrades were to make it reliable, safer, faster, and better looking.  In all we spent around $15,000 in upgrades.  This bike runs perfectly and is a head turner.  The only work it needs is a little polishing on the tachometer and the starter motor.  I never wanted to use a starter motor because I like using the kick starter.  But, if you wanted to have a functional electric kick starter the bike is ready for it.  You would simply have the current one rebuilt with more modern brushes and I would recommend installing a more powerful gel battery and heavier gauge cables.  This could all be done for around $500, or just kick start it.

Here is a video of her being started cold.  Note I put my hands on the headers before I start her so you can see she is cold.

The last vintage bike ride I did was the San Francisco 49 Mile Ride.  There were about 150 motorcycles and there was not one other bike that could keep up with this Norton.  Everyone wanted to take a look at her and hear her.  Keep in mind this bike is not a quiet motorcycle.  I am selling her because I am a busy father who only has time to start her up every couple of weeks and ride her about 3 times a year.  Someone else should enjoy her now.

The winner of the auction will need to pay me within 3 days and then you will receive the signed title.  You can then arrange for a delivery service which I am more than happy to coordinate with.  Then she is all yours.  Good luck!

Moto Electra has found a new, innovative way to combine old and new technologies in its electric race bike. The Virginia-based Moto Electra has been an active participant in electric motorcycle racing for the last few years, competing against much larger, better funded teams with a race bike using an electric motor and 1950s Norton Featherbed frame. That melding of old and new has produced surprising results, including podium finishes in the TTXGP and victory in a race featuring both electric and gas-powered motorcycles.
