At auction today for your consideration is a nicely put together example of Norton's 650SS sporting twin done up with all the
relevant period bits that go into what has become a custom genre in it's own right; The Cafe Racer.
Those bits include that big alloy gas tank, shouldered alloy wheel rims (Excel-Japan) with stainless spokes, matching alloy blades
(fenders) front and back, rear-set foot controls, Converta instrument brackets for the fully functional Cronometrics, a Cibie concave
headlight unit and a monoposto (racing) saddle. To help make it go is a K2FC Lucas Competition Mag and sweptbacks (exhaust pipes)with reverse cone megas. To reign it all back in again is an early Commando front end with it's quite effective TLS front stopper.
The bike is shod with what looks like (at least from six feet) new Dunlop K81 TT100s made in GB and USA front and rear respectively. They might be alright for posing at yer local but, showing as they do, some light sidewall checking you might consider something fresher should your intentions include some proper ear-'olin'.
Flood the Concentrics prod it a couple of times and it lights right up and, once warm, settles to a steady idle. The engine shows
excellent oil pressure at the return and is mechanically quiet.
The frame and most cycle parts (black) appear to be powder coated and are in excellent condition with only the instrument cases and
perhaps the oil tank needing a bit of a brush up. The engine number is repeated on the frame under the model designation number (18) for all 650CC machines and next to that is the chassis/ frame number which is: 104543. These numbers are more visible in person than the photo (and the coating ) allow. The bike conveys with a clear New Jersey title.

Norton Signs Cameron Donald to Race Isle of Man TT
Thu, 20 Mar 2014Norton Motorcycles has signed two-time TT winner Cameron Donald to a three-year contract to race in the Isle of Man TT. Donald will ride the Norton SG3 sportbike in the Dainese Superbike and PokerStars Senior TT classes, starting both races seeded 19th. That matches the number of the late Steve Hislop, the last Norton rider to win on the Isle of Man with a victory in the 1992 Senior TT race.

Bonhams To Auction Bruce Smith Collection Of Original Illustrations
Fri, 11 Oct 2013On October 20, Bonhams will be auctioning off a collection of original illustrations by Bruce Smith from the 1960s and 1970s. Each one will be signed by Smith on heavy cartridge paper. The collection is comprised of cutaway illustrations of a 1963 Royal Enfield Interceptor 750cc, Chris Vincent’s 1964 BSA 650cc A65 Race Outfit, and a 1966 Greeves Racer, the largest of this series being 45cm x 62cm.
