2003 Kawasaki ZZR600 (ZX600E)

This ZZR600 is a low mileage bike, having only covered 3,238 miles. It has been garaged from new and looks fantastic. The paintwork is as smooth and shiny as glass and it still has the showroom look to it.

As you would expect from a machine with these miles, there is virtually no wear on the chain and sprockets, brakes or suspension components. The engine starts first time and runs very smoothly. The gear selection is slick and the brakes operate powerfully and progressively. The bike has just been recommissioned after being in storage, so I recently did a carb overhaul and replaced the battery. With proper maintenance, ZZR600s are extremely reliable; it will be many thousands more miles before any work is required on it.

For those not familiar with the ZZR600, it is a 100 bhp, 150 mph sports tourer. When it was introduced it was the fastest 600 sports bike available. Later sports bikes have more power at the top end, although ZZR600s are still known for having a very strong midrange and explosive acceleration. For real world riding where you're not driving everywhere at 9,000+ rpm, the ZZR is the better choice. Handling is good and although it's a sports tourer it's still capable of canyon carving and scraping the pegs if that's your thing. The other strong point of the ZZR is comfort - you can ride this bike all day and not feel like you've been folded up like a piece of origami when you get off it. All in all, this is a great motorcycle that rides exceptionally well and looks fantastic.

The bike has a clean title in my name and is registered until June 2017. The only thing to do on the bike is change the tires which are the original ones fitted to the bike at the factory. Because I don't ride much above legal freeway speeds and there are no visible cracks in them, I have not replaced them. However, this is something that I would recommend doing. There are a few micro marks on the bike from storage; other than that it is in pristine condition. It's for sale for $3,295 or close offer, meaning that you get a bike that looks very nearly as good as new and can do 95% of what a new sports 600 can do for a quarter of the price.

Thief Steals Motorcycle from Crash Victim

Tue, 07 Aug 2012

It already sucks when you’re involved in a motorcycle crash. I found that out myself first-hand recently. It’s even worse however when someone steals your bike while you’re lying on the ground with severe injuries.

Recall for 2009-2010 Kawasaki KLX250

Tue, 05 Jul 2011

Kawasaki is recalling some 2009-2010 KLX250 models due to a risk of leaky fuel tanks. According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the fuel tank on affected motorcycles may not be in contact with the frame-mounted rubber dampers designed to support the front of the tank, and the tank side mounting tabs may have excessive clearance from from the frame. As a result, spot-welded sections along the side tabs may be under excessive stress, potentially resulting in cracking and a fuel leak.
