Kawasaki Other description

This is a rare early production 1977 KZ1000 A/1 that rolled off the assembly line in July of 1976. It is frame number 000597 with engine number 000637. There was a total of 27,500 A/1's made in Japan prior to the production moving to Lincoln, Nebraska and a restarting of the VIN numbers at 500,000. This bike was probably done in the second or third week of the run. I did not have alot of time for pictures today and more will be added as the weekend nears through the Picassa link below.

I bought this bike out of a dealership overflow storage in the early 1990's. At that time, it had sat unused since 1984 per the inspection sticker, was repainted in the color that you see which sort of looks diamond blue - but is actually more of a green and had mag wheels and an LTD step seat. The exhaust had been sold by the dealer and I have used this 79 dated MK II system as a replacement to keep it stock. I found a fairly good set of  later 77 dated wire wheels to put on - the front is still pretty nice with rear needing respoke. The hoops are also decent with only the rear having one significant scratch. A correct stock seat has also been added with paint loss and corrosion on a very solid base. The cover is still nice and it has the usual wear behind gas tank area. A new Yuasa battery was installed a few months ago and all of the electrics work as designed. There is only one area of modification with the harness inside the headlight bucket for the gauge console. Everything has always worked fine; so it has been left alone. All of the rubber parts are original with the exception of a few sidecover grommets.

Over the course of last winter and into the early spring of this year this bike was completely dismantled for freshening. The frame and all fittings were given a light and carefully applied new coat of paint, the entire engine was regasketed including tranny cover with shift shaft seals and any other seals or orings throughout the whole motor. The head and cylinder gasket integrity was fine and left alone, the fork lowers were stripped and recleared and have a beautiful brushed natural aluminum finish. I have used a complete Dyna ignition system and automatic cam chain tensioner since I have owned it; but this bike will come delivered with it's original stock coils and dated points plate along with correct manual tensioner. I have recently acquired a low mileage #000652 and am now passing this bike on to a new owner.

This bike starts, runs, rides and stops beautifully. I have recently cleaned and repacked the steering neck bearings, replaced one swingarm bearing, rebuilt both brake masters and calipers and have done the fork seals and dust boots. The carbs recieved new oem kits a few years ago along with airbox boots. The cables are oem originals, all the plastic parts are done with 'made in japan' molds and the tail has paint scratches on top from a luggage rack. The tank is date stamped 6 E 31 and was originally Diamond Blue as seen underneath. The tank is very clean inside and the original handlebars and switches are still in great shape as are the grips. It is curently on it's second set of factory sprockets with a nice RK oring chain, the brake pads are new in the front and the tires are in very good condition. This bike did suffer a tipover once and the stator cover is scratched, the chrome shows it's age throughout the bike and the zinc plating on original hardware is getting dull - but overall; it is in nice shape for being 37 yrs. old..

This bike has the early valve cover found on Kawasakis first 1000cc model with wide ribless ends, the carb rack has the upper body stiffener plate found on the 76 / 77 KZ900 carbs - and it is also seen in the early parts book diagrams. The date stamp pad on engine block is in the position found on earlier 900 blocks versus later 1000's where it is located on the upper deck behind clutch basket - this is essentially a 900 block with new number series. Besides the 1978 Z1R; this was the last KZ with a dated swingarm - code 6 0 7 - which matches the frame month of production. It has the early tail drawer sticker ending in #245, a nice used owners manual and complete correct toolkit is included. A recent NOS seat lock supplied 2 brand new lions crest keys to complete the package. The only aftermarket parts on this bike are the rear shocks and center stand bolts.

This would be an awesome vintage collector piece if you had the stock paint and correct oem exhaust to put back on it. I am the second owner and have tried to take good care of it - it has always been garaged high and dry. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have and personnal inspections are welcomed and encouraged.

Scorpion silencer for Z800e

Sun, 22 Sep 2013

PERFORMANCE exhaust manufacturer Scorpion has launched a silencer for Kawasaki's Z800e which it says adds 4.9bhp while shaving 5.4kg off weight. The Z800e is Kawasaki's A2-friendly version of the Z800, with claimed power reduced from 111 to 94bhp. A2 licence holders limited to 47bhp can ride a machine which has been restricted but it must not have made more that 94bhp to begin with, making the Z800e eligible.

K-Tech release 25SSK for Big Piston Forks

Mon, 21 May 2012

K-Tech have released their popular 25SSK front fork open cartridge system to fit all Showa Big Piston Forks. Here's what K-Tech have to say about them: These lightweight aluminium units are supplied to the same exacting specification as all other 25SSK fitments with 14mm piston rods and a 25mm cartridge tube, the 14mm piston rods displace a large volume of oil through the 25mm control pistons giving enhanced damping characteristics over the standard Big Piston Fork and allow a bigger volume of air for a more precise feel at the bottom of the fork travel. The cartridge kits have compression and rebound adjustment in both legs and are supplied with 1.5mm Flow Control Valves for a more accurate adjustment, all necessary hardware is supplied to convert the Big Piston Forks to take the cartridges but it is necessary to order the springs you require as these are not included, customer price for the 25SSK cartridges is £725.00 + VAT and are available for the following models:- Honda CBR1000RR 2012 Kawasaki ZX6-R 2009-2012 Kawasaki ZX10-R 2011-2012 Suzuki GSXR600 2011-2012 Suzuki GSXR1000 2009-2012 Contact K-Tech on: +44(0)1283 559007.
