Honda Other description

Up for sale is a 1984 Honda VT500 Ascot in decent running condition, but in need of expert tuning. All functions work well with the exception of the tachometer, which makes a loud whirring noise as rpm's go above 3000 rpm when the weather is cold. I have it disconnected currently. The exhaust system has been customized to eliminate the heavy central chamber and uses a less restrictive muffler. It sounds good and has no exhaust leaks. The engine, brakes , lights, transmission, shaft drive, and controls all work as they should. Rear tire is new, front is 50% gone. It does not burn oil and leaks maybe a drop a month. This bike has been very reliable and has never left me stranded. It has a low seat height and would be a good bike for a shorter person. It gets 60 mpg around town. The paint is not great. The tank has had a magnetic tank bag on it for years, making the paint scratchy on top. The tank bag is included. Elsewhere, the paint is not too bad, but not very glossy. The registration was just renewed this month. The bike runs well almost all the time, but has a tuning issue. During the engine warm up period on warmer days, the engine will sometimes act as if there is fuel starvation. On cold days, the problem doesn't happen. Once warmed up, the engine always runs fine, but when the problem crops up, both cylinders will quit at partial throttle while riding. Idle and full throttle do not cut out, only when at partial throttle. When riding, this requires going to full throttle for a few seconds till the cylinders come back. Once warmed up, everything is back to normal. This usually takes about 3 to 5 minutes riding time. This may be easy to fix, but I wasn't able to find the problem. I won't ship it, or deliver it, so it will be up to the buyer to pick it up. I am in San Jose, Ca.. Paypal, cash, cashiers check or personal check(wait to clear).

R&G announce cheaper engine case cover kits

Tue, 06 Sep 2011

R&G Racing has reacted to the rising cost of official motorcycle parts from manufacturers by creating money saving packages on its Engine Case Covers. As a reaction to the parts price rise, the crash protection leader has created a kit package on its Engine Case Covers (ECC) – offering an overall saving of more than 10% when compared to buying the items individually. The ECCs are designed to protect the engine cases and the inner workings of the motor in the event of a drop by acting as a sturdy ‘second skin’.By simply bolting over the original items, fitting the durable Engine Case Covers doesn’t require draining any engine fluids or replacing gaskets. Extensively developed in the ACU R&G Racing Suzuki GSX-R600 Trophy, as well as being tested and approved by the California Superbike School in the UK and USA, the covers can allow a bike to be ridden after a crash or prevent terminal engine damage from oil leaks or casing punctures.Protection benefits aside, financial savings for riders are evident by looking at official parts prices; to replace only the clutch cover on a Suzuki GSX-R1000K7 would cost £206 including a new gasket, but all three R&G Engine Case Covers for this bike cost only £143.

Colin Edwards has announced he will retire at the conclusion of the 2014 MotoGP season. The two-time World Superbike champion cited a lack of progress from winter testing as one reason for the decision.

A Lap of the Isle of Man TT Mountain Course with John McGuinness – Video

Tue, 26 Jun 2012

The Isle of Man TT is a very special event. Once the most prestigious motorcycle event in the world, the TT requires a certain type of character to ride superbikes at an average speed of over 130 mph through the quaint villages and over the rolling hills of the 37.73-mile Mountain Course. But don’t take my word for it, take the word of 19-time TT winner John McGuinness.
