THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION!!!

This auction is for a REALLY sweet 1970 Honda Z50A Mini Trail, VIN 307174.  This is not a perfect museum piece, but HAS been painstakingly restored with lots of TLC.  To start with, the engine has been totally rebuilt (bored first over, new piston and rings, valve job, automatic clutch totally gone through and adjusted, new points, engine cases and head beadblasted, all new seals and gaskets, etc) by a factory trained Honda mechanic with over 40 years of experience.  You will actually have to BREAK THIS ENGINE IN (I’ve put about 10 minutes on the bike since rebuild)!  The following have been replaced with either NOS or reproduction parts: steering bearings, seat (a stencil is included if you want to add the HONDA logo), wheel bearings, fork gaiters and bushings, wiring harness, front brake cable, front tire, rear brakes, headlight bulb, battery and strap, spark plug, drive chain, kickstand, dimmer switch, and of course, fresh oil.  The following HARD TO FIND original parts are still on this bike: air cleaner, complete headlight and taillight assemblies, gas tank badges, chainguard, exhaust heat shield, battery box and rectifier, and factory muffler assembly.  Mechanically, brakes work very well, automatic clutch is excellent, gearbox shifts great all through three gears, all lights work. Carb was completely rebuilt, bike starts on first or second kick and idles nicely.  Cosmetically, there is some minor wear and tear, as to be expected – call it PATINA.  The white spots in the photos are reflections.  Since there is no speedometer the mileage is unknown. Fenders are nice but not perfect, some crinkles, no pitting.  There is some slight acid staining on the rear fender and the headlight glass is cracked but headlight functions fine, high and low.  Both handlebar tightening knobs work!   The bike HAS been repainted. The gas tank is all original, very solid, clean and rust free inside, and was sealed for extra measure.  There is  about one drop of oil leaking, every few days, probably from shift shaft seal. This bike is all complete, here is a chance for you to OWN HISTORY!  This bike deserves a great home to a young child hankering for his first bike, an old kid wanting to relive his youth, or someone wanting a REALLY cool pit bike.

We try to accurately describe the shortcomings, but look at the photos and ask questions before bidding.  Don’t bid if you intend to negotiate afterward; that is not how eBay works. I will provide a Bill of Sale if you would like one, there is no title.  There aren’t a lot of these around anymore, so don’t miss your chance to own one!

SHIPPING:  Buyers to pay and arrange for shipping and crate, if necessary.  Seller is willing to take bike to Sacramento, CA. for shipping via ForwardAir.com or other carrier of your choice, in Sacramento for $75.00 additional fee to cover our fuel and time.  If you use Forward Air, they require you to supply 4 tie down straps and 2 combination locks.  Please be prepared to provide this or whatever your shipper needs in order to secure your bike.  Since this is a mini-motorcycle, you can actually use Forward Air’s smaller box, which costs less. Buyer can also pick up bike in Grass Valley, CA.  Shipper damage coverage may be additional – check with the carrier you use!  Please email me with any questions.  I accept payment via PayPal – which takes Visa and MC.  A $200 non-refundable deposit must be received in 2 days.  Full payment must be received within 7 days.  Serious inquiries only. Buy with confidence! We have sold many motorcycles over the years on ebay!  Check our ratings and feedbacks - which are in the thousands!   We have been selling on eBay since 1999 and have many happy repeat customers.  We’re always listing lots of items.  Check our listings – talk about variety!  If you win multiple auctions we will combine shipping to save you money.  Please check my other auctions and thanks for looking!

Stoner Blows Away Competition on Final Day of MotoGP Sepang Test

Thu, 02 Feb 2012

To be the man, you have to beat the man, and after the final day of MotoGP’s pre-season test in Malaysia, Repsol Honda‘s Casey Stoner continues to be the man. The reigning MotoGP World Champion didn’t let lingering soreness from the back problems that sidelined him for the first day of testing at Sepang slow him down. On just his second of 21 laps on the final day, Stoner set a blistering lap time of 1:59.607, besting second-fastest rider Jorge Lorenzo by 0.591 seconds. While there’s still some room for improvement to be found his Honda RC213V, Stoner will turn things over to the engineers and fly back home to Switzerland to his wife Adriana for the birth of their first child.

Schwantz and Mackenzie on the Nurburgring box

Mon, 10 Dec 2012

A 500GP bike never fails to stop me in my tracks and that’s exactly what happened when I spotted this Schwantz example from the early nineties, proudly displayed on the Arai stand at the recent Motorcyclelive show.  On loan from Crescent Suzuki and accompanied by a rostrum publicity shot from the 1990 German GP at the Nurburgring, I felt the urge to write a few words on that special weekend. I started the year running my own 250 GP team with fairly standard TZ Yamahas but was drafted in as Kevin Schwantz’s team mate after Kevin Magee suffered a serious head injury at the second Grand Prix in Laguna Seca.  With no testing and some major Spanish food poisoning I finished 8th at the next round in Jerez then followed that up with a 5th place in Misano. Next up was the Nurburgring and after qualifying on the second row of the grid, my crew chief Geoff Crust informed me he had a premonition of a race day rostrum finish. He also told me I better make it come true as he was already looking forward to a few post race celebratory refreshments. While I hoped Crusty was the new mystic meg, the truth was I would have been more than happy to buy the beers if I made it to the flag inside the top five. I had an outside chance of catching one major scalp as Wayne Rainey was riding with a nasty hand injury but I suspected adrenalin would see him through the day. I also followed Mick Doohan a fair bit in practice but he was beginning to find his feet on the Rothmans Honda so was going to be another problem.  When the lights went out Schwantz and Rainey went straight to the front I while I hung in behind Doohan and Pier Francesco Chilli, and then it happened. Coming out of the bottom right hand hairpin, Doohan and Chilli simultaneously high sided in one of the most spectacular crashes of the season. I never liked seeing any fellow riders crash but I made the most of this early race gift and rode my 160bhp/115kg RGV hard to the flag, claiming my first podium of the season.  We partied hard (win or lose we always did) that night and I went on to have my best ever season finishing fourth overall in the championship. After the last round in Australia, I finished second to Kevin at Sugo in Japan then won in Malaysia at another international race that KS didn’t attend. I also tested at Eastern Creek for the following season but then was flicked from the team for reasons that still remain a mystery. Hey Ho!

Back in the day, the All Japan 500cc Championship at Tsukuba

Fri, 24 Jun 2011

This ‘you tube’ gem sent to me recently brought back some funny memories from the scary but incredibly exciting days of 500cc two stroke racing. This particular race was the final round of the All Japan 500cc Championship at Tsukuba Circuit where I enjoyed a head to head battle with national hero Tadahiko Taira. Yamaha’s favourite son at the time, ‘tie wrap’ as we liked to call him, was taller and better looking than most Japanese riders (maybe a war baby?) and went on to win nearly everything in Japan during his career.
