World Superbike teammates Leon Haslam and Jonathan Rea and their wives are expecting babies with their respective wives in the next few weeks, so the Pata Honda team presented its riders with a special gift: onesies replicating the team’s racing leathers. Tatia and Jonathan Rea are expecting their first child in September while Olivia and Leon Haslam are expecting their second child any day now. Rea’s baby will have a replica of daddy’s Alpinestars racing suit with all of his sponsors and his butt patch.

MotoGP Lifts Rookie Rule, Caps Factory Prototype Entries and Adjusts Other Regulations

As expected, MotoGP organizers have officially lifted the rule barring rookies from racing for factory teams, but the Grand Prix Commission also tweaked some other regulations including a cap on factory prototype machines. KTM introduced its prototype electric motorcycle earlier this week, and electric bike manufacturer Zero Motorcycles almost immediately responded by opening sales on its 2009 Zero X dirt bike (look for our review of the 2008 model next week!). But these two companies aren’t the only ones exploring the possibilities of electric-powered motorcycles. In September, Japan’s largest industrial information journal Nikkei Business Daily reported that both Honda and Yamaha have set target dates for launching their own electric-powered motorcycles.
