Harley-Davidson Softail description
This beautiful Heritage
Softail Classic was purchased new from our local Harley dealer (Bumpus Harley
Davidson in Jackson, Tennessee) by a friend of mine. I was with him the day he bought it and I rode
with him on my bike for many of the 23,008 miles currently on the bike. My friend rode Harleys over 40 years of his life and he took care of this bike completely, having it serviced either seasonally or per Harley-recommended service schedules, whichever came first. But, now he is no longer able to ride it and I have been asked to sell it for him.
Anyone considering this
model knows that the Heritage Softail Classic has the traditional old style Harley
look, with the leather bags, laced chrome wheels, and lots of chrome. The 2016 Heritage Softail Classic looks
almost identical to this 2008 year model.
The 2016 model lists for $17,349 according to the Harley website, and
that does not include the many pieces of extra chrome and enhancements on this
bike.
This 2008
Harley-Davidson FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic (FLSTC) has a six-speed
transmission and is powered by counter balanced 1584 cc (96 cubic inches)
V-Twin Cam 96B Engine. The
counterbalancing makes it idle smoothly without the hake and vibration found in
the most other Harley models. It is belt
driven and has a 5.0-gallon tank. The
empty weight of the bike is listed at 725 lbs.
This bike is in excellent
condition and it runs great. In the last
two weeks I took it to a local Harley certified mechanic and had it completely serviced,
with all fresh oil and fluids, and put on a new battery.
Both front and rear tire
appear to have between 75-90% of the wear left.
I have not checked to see if the paperwork on the tires is still
available, but I will do so and provide this to the buyer.
The windshield was
replaced a few years ago after the original one was inadvertently scratched
during cleaning. I have included a photo
of the windshield with this listing.
Both exhaust pipes show
signs of marring of the finish on both and are not perfect. This tends to occur as a result of the hot
surfaces coming into contact with cloth or something else that adheres to the
surface, and cleaning reduces the shine.
I had this occur to more than one Harley I have owned and I replaced the
chrome pieces involved. Changing these
exhaust pieces is relatively inexpensive and can be accomplished with little or
no mechanical expertise. These are the
only blemishes I found on the bike.
This bike is available for viewing
by appointment in Lexington, Tennessee. |

Shelved Harley-Davidson Penster Tilting Trike Prototypes Revealed
Thu, 04 Aug 2011The Harley-Davidson Museum has pulled the covers off discarded prototypes of a leaning three-wheeled motorcycle developed by The Motor Company. Harley-Davidson commissioned automobile hot rodding legend John Buttera to build the original prototype (pictured above) in 1998. Codenamed the “Penster”, the Trike looks like it could have been an earlier version of the Can-Am Spyder, but it had a tilting front end similar to the Piaggio MP3.
Fundraising Harley Prints By 8-year-old MDA Ambassador On Sale
Tue, 10 Sep 2013MDA Ambassador Reagan Imhoff wanted the artwork she created with Harley-Davidson designer Mathew Hintz to “raise a lot of money for MDA so we can have more scientists to make medicines.” The original drawing of a purple Harley-Davidson Softail Breakout motorcycle brought in $3500 on August 31 at the MDA auction during the 110th Anniversary Celebration. The pair hopes to raise even more with sales of the limited edition, signed prints, available through www.HintzStudios.com. “I’m happy our artwork raised some money, and hope we sell all of the prints!” said Reagan, who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a painful neuromuscular disease.
