Harley-Davidson Other description

Please bear with me and check back for updates. I am having problems with my auction loading. I will have to make periodical edits.
NADA lists this motorcycle in poor condition for $5200.00.

KBB lists it at $5600 in excellent condition (when purchased from a dealer, not a private individual)

It has the value I'm asking, it is a rare collectable motorcycle. The Harley museum requested I donate it after I finished it, but that was after approx. $11000 spent so I declined. I paid $6500 on her in 2001 the restore was at least $4500 and have had her since.

Black with red pin stripe in the 'Sturgis' model tradition with house of color paint that has to be seen to appreciate. You can see your full head to toe reflection in the two piece tanks! If  you look at the bar shield emblem on the right side you can see me taking the pic. Left side tank as well, further back. The FXSB was created with vintage lines that scream class.

The FXSB was the first run non limited edition factory low rider with forward controls, lower seat, and pull backs. (not a 'conversion') it was available standard with twin disk brakes, belt primary and drive, kick and electric start. The seat is a full three inches lower than standard.  I have drag bars on her currently. The slim profile front end is smooth, responsive and racy feeling. The 'SB" stood for secondary belt. 1983 was also the last full year run of the shovel head motor. None were rubber mounted and the mounts are good and solid. The vibes are much more 'living' than the rubber mounted models that followed. The sound of the shovel is very distinctly different than the soulless Evo and twin cams that followed too. You can hear it in Alex's Shovel in the overdubbed opening to Van Halens' "Hot for Teacher" as well as Nikki's shovel in Girls, Girls, Girls. The added 3" pipes with torque cones make the sound unmatched. This motorcycle is kick start only but can be returned to electric start as the primary, rectifiers and breakers are in place. The primary drive is a dry belt and the pulleys used to have a rubber dampener in the two part pulley but would wear out. They also busted belts frequently due to kickback when the electric start was used, so the electric start was commonly removed and the two pieces were welded together which solved the problems that plagued the design. Even with the electric start. This primary has the welded pulley and the basket has new Kevlar clutch plates installed. The intake gaskets, primary belt, brake master and calipers and hoses, 3" slash cut pipes are all newly replaced back in 04 and are still in new condition. . There are some staining from coastal salt air exposure but all chrome is in great shape and just need some one willing to put the time into making her shine out. No rust. There is no pride like that you get from seeing your chrome glisten in the sun!

I worked hard to restore her to factory stock as the modified  customs were saturating the market and a stock motorcycle became the black sheep. Being this is so rare it was a great choice!
For starters, the tranny is a well rebuilt four speed but can be upgraded to a five in a four case even though some people aren't aware that it can be and will say it can't. A prospective buyer told me that he heard that parts are not available for the old shovels and that is not true. Just look up shovelhead in eBay and you can see what is there. Chrome specialties and other catalogs still show parts as well.  There is not a part on this bike I can't find and much NOS is still available. The replacement parts these days are better manufactured than the original ones were manufactured back in the day.  She is not an AMF but has many highly sought after AMF stuff left on her such as the rims, swing arm,  controls, etc.. I just noticed that the battery box is not in the pic but I have a chrome box with lid and strap.

Has many upgrades like adjustable push rods and hydraulic lifters, polished and ported heads & polished intakes, S&S Super B with turbulator and upgraded pickup tube, solid state ignition wired for single fire, twin console that has NOS factory blue high beam jewel not the red replacement found in catalogs. That was hard to locate. Located and installed original 8mm setup with clutch basket, pulley. and new belt. It took two years to find those parts but did. This is a very fast motorcycle I just don't have the time that it deserves. Plus I need a down payment for a house, I have five vehicles and something has to give. Your getting more than your paying for, a lot more. And easily will be ready for riding with a little work. I mean it is a Harley, can be rebuilt in your living room like back in the day. no computers, just fuel kick and go! Unknown miles but when the heads were off. I carefully scraped all the carbon off the pistons and lip was removed, and vacuumed as I went. The carbon was surprisingly light and had little rim on the cylinders.
This is one sweet old school machine with all matching numbers and clear Texas title. I had spent 4500 on the restore with just the few things I dreamed of doing left to go, like a five in a four speed with a 3" BDL belt drive, when by advice I changed the oil with the recommended 60 weight by the local Harley shop. The oil pump was the only thing I didn't replace and the older motorcycles shouldn't use the 60 as they are air cooled and perform better with regular 30 or 40 depending on the time of year. The oil pump failed to extract oil from the case and it is full of oil. The gaskets are saturated but the lower end has been protected by the oil. This did not occur while riding it and the motor is free and turning. Though it wont take much to get it up and running again. I have hit a wall in spending money on her, If she were up I would not be selling her. I have a chopper I ride now and again, this motorcycle should find a good home. I have the Clymer manual which is very step by step for this model, and many receipts of the work done. The motorcycle is for sale locally and will communicate the status of offers for sale with bidders. Shipping is reasonable, I shipped my chopper from WA., it didn't break me.
Sorry about the grammar errors and the format. I am fighting the format on this ad.
Thank you and I welcome any questions.

Dave Grohl Drums to the Sound of a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle

Fri, 31 Jul 2009

I’ve got a lot of respect for Dave Grohl.  He’s amazingly talented and very driven.  Even after Nirvana, the guy is still kicking and in the spotlight with the Foo Fighters and the millions of other side projects he’s done (ie: Queens of the Stone Age). Apparently he’s also a big motorcycle guy. Harley-Davidson did a little video on Dave, featuring him drumming on a snare drum to the exhaust pipes of a Harley-Davidson.  The seven minute video goes on about how Mr Grohl bought his first motorcycle when the Nirvana album “Nevermind” started to become big.
