I am listing my Harley Davidson Springer Chopper Project Bike for a second time due to the buyer being unable to complete the transaction. I have been an Ebay member for many years, with many thousands of transactions, and have had only a handful of buyers renege on a purchase. It is rare, but obviously an inconvenience for everyone. I've decided to part with my 70s Vintage Harley Davidson Ironhead Chopper Hardtail project bike. I picked up this bike about 5 years ago as a chopper project to work on over a couple winters. It had been a running bike for the previous owner, although I've never ridden it. We trailored the bike home and moved it to our basement workshop where we intended to rebuild the bike over the next couple years. Fortunately for us, but unfortunately for the build, we now have two small children. Consequently, at this point I can see no way to work the project into my rolling 5-year plan. It truly pains me to part with this bike, but we need our basement back. I put about a year total into the build so far, and have enjoyed every minute I've worked on the bike. When finished it will be a beautiful bike. It is probably 80-85% mocked up, depending on what the new owner does to the bike, and I already have most of the parts needed to complete the project. If you're looking for a great winter project, that is not too difficult, this is it. 

Axle to Axle Wheelbase is approximately 76". 
Saddle Height is a very nice Low 25"

In sourcing parts, I've tried to obtain genuine HD parts - vintage whenever possible. Some are obviously aftermarket. The rear fender is an old HD Panhead. The Chrome Oil Tank and Filter were original to the bike when I bought it and are probably old HD Panhead or possibly Early Sportster. This bike was likely built in the early 80s (although I'm not sure that was the original build of the bike, but that's the endpoint of the title). The builder sourced parts from several older bikes. I've kept as many vintage parts as possible and practical. 

I believe this chopper was originally built in the early 80s from Vintage parts (the engine is a '72 and there are/were some older Panhead/Sportster parts utilized). 

NOTE: One of the pics shows new cylinder heads, pistons, and forward controls laying in front of the bike on the build table. These are all new parts that the owner may want to incorporate in the build - or not. If the buyer is interested in these parts, let me know and we can work something out. Otherwise, they are not included in with the bike and will be listed separately. 

Also ... Ebay requires a mileage for bike listings. I entered 20k, but I don't know the actual mileage on the bike. There is no odometer. It shouldn't matter since when the build is completed, you will have a bike with essentially zero miles. 

The following details what the bike includes and what has been done, and also what needs to be done to complete the bike, depending on what the new owner wants to do. 

What's Included and What's Been Done:
-Clear Nebraska title
'-72 HD Ironhead 1000cc engine (original to the chopper). Kick start, but I believe it could be fitted with electric start if someone wanted that and wanted to source the parts. The original bike was a running bike for the previous owner, but had probably not been driven for a couple years. When I purchased the bike, there was quite a lot of caked grease and oil around the lower engine. I assume the old Ironhead, like most old Ironheads, leaked oil. I've never run or started the bike, but have no reason to believe that it was not running for the previous owner. The shifter did seem to cycle through the gears ok. I broke the engine down completely, save for cracking the lower case, which I did not do. I have a buddy that's an engine guy and he said there was play in the lower end (not surprisingly) so probably best to plan on opening the lower case. I did not rebore the cylinders. I have cleaned the pistons, valves, rockers, etc. in fact, the entire top end. I should have all original engine parts as well as a fairly large assortment of replacement engine parts, rockers, valves, etc. of needed. I do have a complete gasket kit (included). Some of the gaskets have already been replaced.

-Vintage Chopper Frame (sandblasted and original to the chopper)
-The entire frame, tank, front and rear fenders have been sandblasted and are ready for prep, finishing and paint
-Sourced Vintage Panhead Rear Fender with Tombstone Tail light (sandblasted). 
-New Chrome Front Disk Brake and Chrome Disk Rotor
-Sourced HD Rear Brake and New Chrome Rear Disk Rotor
-New Chrome Rear Offset Sprocket
-New Steel Battery Cage (needs assembly)
-New Chrome Spoked Wheels Front and Rear
-New Tires Front and Rear
-Front Tire: New Metzler Me 33 Laser 3.50 x 19.57. The original front tire was skinny 21". I replaced it with a fatter, 19" wheel/tire to lower the front end. 
-Rear Tire: New Continental Conti-Tour 150/80 x 16 71
-New Chrome Handlebars
-New Chrome Risers
-New Chrome Sissy Bar
-Sourced Vintage Red/Green Sidelights Left and Right, Front and Rear
-Sourced Vintage Double Chrome Cap Fuel Tank (sandblasted)
-Vintage Guide Headlight (original to the chopper)
-Vintage Stitched Saddle Seat and Buddy (original to the chopper)
-Vintage Chrome Springer Front End (original to the chopper)
-Vintage Chrome Oil Tank (original to the chopper)
-Vintage Chrome Oil Filter (original to the chopper)
-New S&S Carburetor. I replaced the original carb with a beautiful, new S&S. I no longer have the original carb.
- Vintage NOS Chrome Pipes. I believe these are 70s vintage, and NOS. The way I have it presently configured, these fit into New Shorty Chrome Pipes off the cylinders. I've fitted the upper pipe. The lower pipe needs to have its hanger fitted. 
- New K&N Air Filter

What Remains:
-Any and all welds. I've only fitted parts in the mock up, and have executed no welds. Most parts are bolted. Parts that aren't bolted and that require welding are temporarily fitted with clamps. 
-Electrical, Wiring and Hydraulics. Need Brakes, Clutch, Throttle Controls, as well as Master Cylinders. I do have a couple Master Cylinders that I intended to use, but are not included. If interested, let me know. 
-Needs Battery.
-Needs Chain.
-The Engine needs put back together, oil lines put in place, etc. These are pretty simple engines, so it shouldn't be that difficult. If you want to rebore the cylinders, you'll need to do that as well. All original engine parts should be here (except for things like rings, some gaskets, etc), as well as an ample assortment of replacement parts to choose from if needed. You may want to crack open the lower case, but I'll leave that to the new owner. 
-Body and Paint work need to be done ... frame, tank, fenders.

Shipping:
The bike must be picked up at my residence in Omaha, NE, 68132. The buyer must arrange for pickup by a shipper of their choice. I would estimate the total weight to at 500 lbs or less. Bike must be paid for in full prior to pickup. Again, the bike is on its build platform in my basement, so once the bike is sold and paid for, it will be sufficiently broke down to remove from my basement. The major parts are the frame, the springer front end, the engine, and the wheels. Remaining parts that can be boxed up will be. I've bought and sold maybe 1/2 dozen bikes over the internet, so I do have some experience with this. There are many good shippers out there. I can assist with the loading. But it must be picked up at my home. 

Price, Bidding, and Payment:
I do have a low reserve on the bike. I've got a little over $4k invested in this bike which includes the original bike purchase, and all the newly sourced parts. It does not include the many long hours spent sourcing parts, fitting new parts, and assembling the mock-up to its present state. The reserve on the bike is a fraction of this amount.

A $200 non-refundable deposit is due, via Paypal, at the auction close. The balance must be paid within 7 days, via cashier's/certified check, and must be paid prior to pickup.  

Returns:
There is no return on the bike. You will not be disappointed in this project. It will be a beautiful bike for someone who is looking for a killer winter project, but one that is not too difficult. If you've never done a project like this but have always wanted to, this would be perfect. I've already done most of the hard work, and these old HD Ironhead Choppers are pretty simple bikes.

Bobby Petrino’s Harley-Davidson Available for Auction – Comes With Baggage

A 2007 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic reportedly belonging to former University of Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino is up for auction. Listed as salvage title, the Harley-Davidson is painted in the school’s colors and features a razorback boar – Arkansas’ mascot – painted on the fuel tank with the words “Hawg Wild”. Sports blog ArkansasaSports360.com reported it can confirm the bike was the one Petrino crashed April 1.

IF YOU'VE a young daughter and you want to keep her away from motorcycles when she's older (or more likely the men that ride them) then look away now.Yes folks, Barbie and Ken are getting serious makeover to keep them up-to-date for 2010 - the new Harley-Davidson endorsed couple now come complete with biker gear, tattoos and even piercings (a Prince Albert, perhaps?). It makes you wonder what Mattel, the company behind the plastic duo, has next in the pipeline. Maybe they'll have a model of Birmingham airport, where Ken can kick the sh*t out of rival bike gang members?

The Harley-Davidson Museum is opening a new exhibit featuring photographs from custom builder and artist Josh Kurpius. Opening Jan. 17, the Living Lost Photographs by Josh Kurpius art exhibit includes 30 photographs taken during a series of road trips Kurpius took with friends, all riding vintage Harleys.
