Harley-Davidson Other description

1949 Harley Davidson Panhead bobber for sale in Huntington Beach, CA. With clean CA title, registered as 1949 Harley. This was the 2nd year of the Panhead motor, a true classic. The original Harley 1949 wishbone frame that has been unmodified and 1949 Panhead motor are in exceptional condition. The frame has no scrapes or flattening on the underside, which is very common with bikes of this age. The frame also has the sidecar loops. The motor is a 74 in (1200 ci) motor) hooked up to an SU Eliminator carb that runs good and does not leak. The bike is registered as a 1949 Harley in California, which is great for insurance purposes (as opposed to a special construction bike, which can be difficult to get insurance for due to fraud issues.) It even has an original 1940s CA license plate with the 49 tab, an extremely rare item. The plate has been professionally restored and looks amazing. This could be an ideal bike for someone looking to restore an original 1949 Panhead, but it runs and rides good in its bobber condition. The motor has roughly 600 mis since a complete rebuild by Mesa Cycles in Costa Mesa. The heads are original and are in amazing shape. So are the generator case and the rest of the motor, inside and out. The transmission is an original Harley 4 gear ratchet top, which has also recently been rebuilt and is running a suicide/jockey shift set up right now, but could easily be converted back to a hand clutch/foot shift application. The Primo clutch has a great feel with the foot pedal clutch and is super easy to get in and out of gear. S&S fuel pump was installed with recent motor rebuild, along with the Mallory twelve volt ignition so although this is a kick start only, it is reliable. Newer twelve volt generator. The wheels and hubs were built by Wheel Works and are arrow straight with stainless spokes. Custom seat with a stitched leather devil lady luck by Dream Evil designs. Lots of Fab Kevin brackets, risers, etc. Tokico front and rear disk brakes, JayBrake front brake master and GMA rear brake master. The bike also has some really cool vintage items that add character (late 30s ford spare tire cover as fender, old service truck spotlight as headlamp, 1949 Penney in the trans speedometer cable insert, etc.) The fishtail upsweep pipes always turn heads, especially when the bike is running (they sound great.) I built this bike from the ground up and it has been meticulously maintained. I have every receipt for every item on the bike. I guaranty this bike will turn heads and is a perfect addition to any gearheads garage. Serious inquiries only. Please contact Michael at 714-319-XXXX for more info.

Twin-engine pulsejet motorcycle. As you do..

Mon, 21 Feb 2011

The guy behind this twin-engined pulsejet motorcycle, Robert 'Bob' Maddox, fascinates me. He's a cabinet maker by trade but is somewhat an expert in the field of pulsejet engineering and has built a whole host of machines powered by the ever so subtle jet engine. This latest bike is dubbed a Harley-Davidson Sportjet, although it has nothing to do with Milwaukee and I'm not sure why H-D made it onto the tank...
