Harley-Davidson AERMACCHI description

I bought this last year and had it shipped to me by a professional MC transporter. I am retiring and moving to the 50th state, paring my possessions. Below is the original auction description by the restorer. I was not disappointed and you will not be. As I wrote in the seller's feedback, one of the few times the vehicle exceeds my expectations.

Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. I will assist in any reasonable way.

1970 Harley Davidson Aermacchi 350 ERS scrambler. Very rare factory production race bike with dry clutch and magneto ignition and Dellorto carburetor. Frame and engine numbers match. The factory designation for the ERS was 7b before the serial number.

This was the last and best four stroke off road the factory made and was a Baja 500 winner in it's last year of only a 2 year production. Ready to race it made almost 40 rear wheel horsepower but was heavy and complicated compared to the 2 strokes that came after.

It is listed as titled but there is only a bill of sale with the bike. I am not sure a title would ever have been issued with the bike but perhaps that is a by state DMV issue.

When i got it out of Michigan it had been out of service a very long time sitting in a shed and appeared to have been used as a trail bike as it had been fitted with a VHB 27 mm Dellorto as fitted to the street model. This makes for easier starting and better low speed tractability.

Motor and gearbox are in very good condition. I did not disassemble bottom end but visual was very clean and crank bearings and rod small and large end bushings felt nice without discernible play. Gearbox shifts very nicely and clutch is smooth in and out.  Motor was flushed and cleaned filter serviced and oil refilled.

Has new old stock original ERS one over piston and rings in fresh micro bore. Guides and seats were fine and valves were hand lapped. Dellorto is completely rebuilt and restored with new remote float hanger. Air cleaner is period correct green foam as the original paper filter is not available

No major cosmetic damage or modifications to the motor except freshened  top end. Only some small nicks and mungs as seen in photos but a lot of what you see is the rougher casting of the race motors compared to street production.

Many NOS parts were used in this sympathetic restoration and nothing was re chromed so a little tarnish is present on lever perch's and that's about all.

Fork is Ceriani and rear Ceriani shocks are new old stock $$$ off the shelf of old Harley dealership. They are original paint which is not as orange as the tank and fenders and is likely the earlier CRS red. I have also seen ERS bikes with them painted black.

Wheel set is rebuilt with NOS Radaelli motocross rims. Spokes are new Buchanan steel with chrome nipples in painted silver as original. Tires are new Dunlop universal trails knock off's made by Shinko. Chain is new

Saddle is original unrestored and almost perfect with the exception of one rivet having pulled through the covering and a little edge wear under one corner. Uber rare original i would never recover but might benefit from new foam cushion.

The clear crankcase vent tube is not correct but I have the very nice original fluted black rubber vent hose to swap if desired.

The CEV kill switch is the later smaller version of the larger CRS  switch. I have seen the ERS with both sizes.

Rare 12k smiths tach is completely restored by Palo Alto speedo at great cost $$$ and sits in the beautiful alloy floating mount with new rubber band.

Tank and fender paint is lacquer hugger orange base with clear coat. Looks great but after only a couple of years already has some typical lacquer age crazing. The original tank top paint was an egg shell flatish black but was redone with gloss which though not correct looks better. Frame paint is deep black epoxy enamel.

Foil decals were left off tank as the only ones available though perfect are like the factory decals not at all flexible and will not lay on the tank without crinkling on the edges. I have looked at several restored and un restored tanks and everyone has this problem. Consulted with everybody on this very shared problem and after two sets of decals and no success i left it plain for now.

Nothing on the bike has been powder coated and the cases and case covers have not been bead blasted. All rubber is replaced and cables renewed.  Comes with new points and condenser set and no other parts.

I have not started the bike or put gas in the tank since restoration as i had no intention of riding it ever. It has sat in my house since completion on a race stand looking just fearsome to all. If you are going to own one off road Aermacchi Harley this is the one to have hands down.
