Investindustrial to Sell Ducati

Ducati may be up for sale again, according to a report by The Financial Times. The Italian manufacturer’s primary owner, private equity firm Investindustrial, is reportedly looking for a buyer in either the automotive industry or a rival motorcycle maker. The firm’s chairman, Andrea Bonomi, told Financial Times the time is right for finding a buyer.

As expected, Mercedes-Benz’s performance division AMG announced it is cutting ties with Ducati following the motorcycle manufacturer’s acquisition by rival car-maker Audi. AMG released a brief statement saying, explaining the split and saying it we never in the running to purchase Ducati: “Since the end of 2010 a successful marketing cooperation has existed between AMG and Ducati. Ducati North America Sets New Monthly Sales Record

Ducati North America set a new monthly sales record selling 1,782 motorcycles in May, easily surpassing its previous record of 1,394 units sold set in June 2008. Helping drive sales was the introduction of the new 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale and the Streetfighter 848 last month. The two new models helped Ducati North America see a 49% year-on-year sales increase for the month.
