Cushman Super Silver Eagle description

1964 Cushman Super  Silver Eagle

This is a very unusual  listing for us at Classical Gas but when we first laid eyes on it we  knew it would fit perfectly with some of our customers' collections.   It is rare, a great color and simply very, very cool! It actually  looks almost like a baby Harley with the suicide shifter and all!!

This Cushman is rare because it is a Super Silver model, and one of  the last of the breed.  By '65 the last Eagles were being sold  and significant production was ramping downward very fast by the end  of '64.  The Japanese brands were beginning to inundate the US  market at that time and, for the money, their product was lighter,  faster, more economical and cheaper. However, the COOL FACTOR was no  contest!

Although Cushman scooters had been around since the mid-thirties and  even significantly used in WWII, the Eagle was not introduced until  1950.  Minor changes evolved over the next six years but in  1959 a new model was introduced, the Super Eagle.  Since  inception the original Eagles had a very "rounded" design for their  fenders not unlike some of the, then current, auto designs.  As  auto designs evolved so did the Eagle.  In '59 the Super  debuted as an option.  It had a smooth, squarish shaped rear  fender even with recessed full length horizontal indentions for the  exhaust pipes and it also enclosed some of the clutch and  transmission mechanicals.  The effect significantly cleaned up  the overall look of the scooter and with the chrome horizontal buddy  seat supports and bigger buddy seat, it was much more comfortable  for the passenger.

Since Cushman was acquired by OMC in the late '50s, their goal was  to engineer a lighter, more modern and powerful engine for the then  successful scooter.  The new engine design incorporated  overhead valves and, as an option, also incorporated an electric  start feature. When optioned with this engine the scooter was dubbed  the Silver Eagle.

This example has it all as an electric start version of the Super  Silver Eagle!  The Turquoise paint and chrome work have a nice  finish and look just as well as it runs.  It utilizes a four  cycle single cylinder Super husky engine and 2 speed gear box.   Make it yours and you too could own one of the biggest names in  little wheels.
