BSA Thunderbolt description

I purchased this 1971 BSA Thunderbolt 650 less than a year and a half ago and in that time I've put roughly 3,500 miles on it. Since then, I've made numerous changes and upgrades which increases it's daily performance and reliability. With it's Pazon Sure-Fire electronic ignition, the bike starts right up on it's first or second kick. It rides smooth and stops better than new, with brand new brakes both front and rear and front brake cam extenders. The tank was in great shape when I bought it but I've since had the side covers painted to match and the air boxes powder-coated black (as well as various other levers and pedals). The inside of the tank was cleaned and coated with Red Kote, which will keep it rust-free. The fork legs and wheel hubs have been powder coated silver and laced with stainless steel spokes from Buchanan. The Dunlop K70 tires are new and still have very good tread.

I installed an external Norton oil filter for better filtration and it doesn't leak any oil. The front forks have new seals and progressive fork springs, while the rear sports Hagon 33006 shocks. New AMAL Premier carb, with all new fuel lines and petcocks as well. The original Lucas headlamp was exchanged for a brighter, halogen headlamp, but the original will be included in the sale. New seat sourced from England and new mufflers still look and sound fantastic. The rest of the improvements are too numerous to mention, but I will include a thoroughly maintained record book, several workshop manuals, as well as a box of spare parts.

The bike is a real head-turner and always draws a crowd wherever it goes. My wife and I took it on our honeymoon this year and we got compliments wherever we went. I'll be sad to see it go, but I currently have too many other projects at the moment. The bike comes with a bill of sale and current Georgia registration.

A recent video of the bike running can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/zlbaCHjCGMY

The only two items that may need attention in the future are the speedometer, which reads about 15-20 miles too fast and the bracket for the side kickstand. I've always kept it on the center stand, which works great, but if you want to use the side stand, the bracket will need to be repaired or replaced. Included in the sale is the repair manual "Magnetic Speedometer Repair" by Graham Blighe.

I am located in Athens, Georgia, which is about an hour outside of Atlanta. The buyer is responsible for pick up and/or shipping, but I can help coordinate pick up with your shipping service.

Thanks for looking and happy bidding!

The Steve McQueen Desert Racer

Tue, 24 Mar 2009

There are few motorcycle icons within pop culture that have endured as vividly as that of the late, great Steve McQueen. A man who was at one time the highest paid actor in Hollywood, he avoided the limelight in favor of immersing himself within his passion for motorcycles. Never afraid of getting dirty, McQueen was at his happiest flogging a bike around the track with fellow racers or tinkering with the machines himself.

Billy Joel Has 1967 BSA Restored On “American Restoration”

Tue, 04 Jun 2013

The 1967 BSA Royal Star 650 has a special place in the heart of the Piano Man, Billy Joel — it was the first motorcycle he ever had. As time went on and Joel’s career blossomed, the love for motorcycles only grew. In fact, Joel even has his own motorcycle shop.
