BMW R-Series description

Having recently and rather unexpectedly purchased a new to me R1200GSA, I am reluctantly selling my trustworthy steed ... my R1100GS Adventure bike. I have owned the bike for roughly 4 years and 40K miles and traveled on many adventure trips throughout the western states.

The bike has been serviced regularly at San Diego BMW Motorcycles including the last 50K major service. The engine oil/filter is changed every 3000 miles using regular dino oil. The transmission/final drive fluids are changed every 10K miles using Redline products. The bike has nearly new Mitas tires and the registration is good until June 2014.

Included in the sale, but not pictured, is a spare set of spoke rims complete with rotors, a brand new Mitas front tire, a spare hall sensor, a D&D muffler, a few extra oil filters and a European headlight switch which is nice because you can switch off the headlights during the daytime if desired,

The bike is in Irvine, CA 92606 which is about 10 miles from the Orange County/John Wayne airport for those considering a fly-in/ride home option.

Details about the bike include ...

  • metal tank from a '96 GS
  • Russell seat and pillion
  • Ohlins shocks front and rear
  • Fastway pegs
  • Hepco Becker crash bars
  • Hepco Becker headlight guard
  • Hepco Becker Aluminum Standard cases
  • Touratech steering and transmission hardparts
  • Caribou Cases rear rack stiffener
  • bar risers (25mm up/15mm rearward)
  • Bosch halogen driving lights
  • spare quart/litre oil holder

BMW Design Chief David Robb Steps Down; Edgar Heinrich Named Successor

Mon, 30 Jan 2012

David Robb, the man responsible for BMW‘s split-face motorcycle design, has left the German manufacturer. A native of Boston, Mass., Robb joined BMW as its design chief in 1993, and over the ensuing 18 years expanded the company’s product line to include the top selling R1200GS, the six-cylinder K1600GT and GTL, and the S1000RR superbike (that’s him on the far right in the picture above). The 56-year-old’s latest design to enter production are the C600 Sport and C650GT maxi-scooters.

Around the world on a Multistrada

Tue, 07 Jun 2011

Ever since Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman rode their BMW’s around the world it seems anyone with a ‘GS’ has an open ticket to ride around the world and then write about it. And fair enough, if I could afford the bike and the trip then I’d be gone as well. Obviously, BMW reaped the rewards when Ewan and Charlie showcased what their GS could really do, changing BMW’s image from solid but stuffy, to solid and cool overnight.
