WSBK 2012: Assen Results

The Netherlands hosted a dramatic weekend of World Superbike racing that featured a red-flagged wet race, several riders crashing while leading, a first-time race winner, a photo finish between two teammates and the reigning World Champion finishing out of the points because of a poor choice of tires. The 2011 WSBK Champion Carlos Checa arrived at Assen with the lead in the championship and a three-race winning streak, but opting to run wet tires in Race Two cost him the lead and may have contributed to a crash that severely injured Liberty Racing‘s Brett McCormick. Jeremy Burgess Out and Silvano Galbusera In as Valentino Rossi’s Crew Chief

Valentino Rossi has parted ways with longtime crew chief Jeremey Burgess, ending a partnership that extended across 14 years and three different manufacturers while capturing seven MotoGP and 500cc Grand Prix World Championships. Burgess will be replaced by Louis CK lookalike Silvano Galbusera, a veteran crew chief and mechanic whose most extensive experience comes from World Superbike and Supersport racing. As crew chief and/or technical director, Galbusera has worked with an impressive roster of riders including Troy Corser, Noriyuki Haga, Cal Crutchlow and Ben Spies.

BMW Reports Q2 2012 Results

BMW reported a 8.9% decrease in motorcycle sales revenue over the second quarter of 2012 but still managed a 1.3% increase over the first half. According to German manufacturer’s second quarter report, the BMW and Husqvarna combined for 410 million euros (US$507.7 million) in revenue over the second quarter ended June 30, 2012, a decrease from the 450 million euros reported in the same period last year. Revenues for the first half totaled 858 million euros (US$1.06 billion), a 1.3% year-over-year increase from 847 million euros.
