EICMA 2011 Preview: BMW Maxi-Scooters to Debut in Milan

BMW will present its 2012 lineup at the upcoming EICMA show in Milan, Italy, but the centerpiece will be the company’s first maxi-scooters. The German manufacturer is expected to reveal two scooter models, both derived from the Concept C BMW unveiled at the 2010 EICMA show. The two scooters are expected to be powered by a version of the parallel Twin engine used in the F800R, but with a lower displacement in the 500cc-650cc range.

The Netherlands hosted a dramatic weekend of World Superbike racing that featured a red-flagged wet race, several riders crashing while leading, a first-time race winner, a photo finish between two teammates and the reigning World Champion finishing out of the points because of a poor choice of tires. The 2011 WSBK Champion Carlos Checa arrived at Assen with the lead in the championship and a three-race winning streak, but opting to run wet tires in Race Two cost him the lead and may have contributed to a crash that severely injured Liberty Racing‘s Brett McCormick. 2012-2013 BMW S1000RR Recalled for Loose Side Stands

BMW has initiated a recall on the 2012 and 2013 S1000RR because the side stands may not have been correctly installed. According to Transport Canada, the side stand attachment bolts may loosen, causing an S1000RR to fall over while resting on the stand. At the moment, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has yet to announce a recall, but American members of Motorcycle.com‘s S1000RR Forum say U.S.
