BMW R-Series description

Hello all,
So the time has come to put my 1995 BMW R1100GS for sale. it has been a faithful bike for me ever since I brought it home from Oakland, CA in 2009.

There is a lot to say about this bike, but to start; it has about 38,000 miles however the speedometer broke and so I put on one with 118ish thousand miles showing. I still have the original speedo/odo. Sounds sketchy right? I believe the title shows to correct mileage.

The goods:
1. New Hagon rear shock with remote pre-load adjuster and adjustable for compression/rebound damping. Up-front is the heavier duty R1150GS shock.
2. Newish tires with good on/off road tread. *However the front has a slow, 2-3psi per day leak. I'll keep investigating this.

3. This is the main good, it is in a solid mechanical state. This machine has been rigorously maintained by myself and BMW Ventura. Shell Rotella synthetic in the engine and BMW 75W-140 syn in the trans and final drive. I originally was planning on keeping this bike forever, as they are known to be bullet proof (minus some trans issues in the early years of this model), but one can only have so many bikes. Especially if you move every 3 years like we do. The valves just got adjusted and throttle bodies synced. It runs well at all RPMs with the typical big twin vibes at higher speeds. I have driven this in 100 degrees temps from LA to Houston to Pensacola with 0 issues for the whole trip.

4. It has the Touratech transmission hard parts! No broken transmission ears here.
5. Newish fuel pump
6. Great ABS!
7. Touratech tinted windscreen and laminar lip make it a nice place to spend they day
8. User and mechanic friendly. The R1100GS is fun and nimble to ride and requires only basic mechanical aptitude to do basic maintenance. It really only needs regular oil and filter changes. The valves rarely get out of sync as the engine has settled in.
9. Lots of strange spares (valve covers, clear screen, final drive, rebuilt-alternator, k&n filter, lots of fluids, and more strange things we can dig up)
10. heated grips!
11. Hepco Becker crash bars.
12. Old records!
13. New rear swing arm pivot bearings.
14. Newish PC680 battery

Bads:
1. Cosmetically she is a workhorse showing some of her age. I always viewed this as good times patina. Nothing that affects functionality and I always took proud in this fact. Nothing crazy or big dents, but paint is wearing thin here and there. No rust!
2. the little toolbox cover hinge in the back has a couple "rungs" snapped off. Doesn't really affect function.
3. Gearbox a little clunky. "They all do this" but is unnerving if you aren't familiar with BMW boxers of this era...well all eras really.
4. Clutch doesn't slip or complain but I feel like prior to me it lived a hard life doing a lot of off-road in Santa Rosa County. This is just conjecture at this point.
5. It leaks a little gas (teaspoons) from the vent hose when the tank is full and it is warm outside. I don't know why other than expansion? It never really bothered me

Feel free to ask all questions, I will try to answer the best I can. I am however a busy guy so let's go about this in serious manner if you are actually interested. If you want a test ride then I will hold the asking price in cash while you go out ride. Please bring your valid motorcycle license.

Thanks for looking!

Fri, 06 Dec 2013

Earlier this week, we wrote about BMW inviting some special guests to witness the start of production for its R nineT roadster. Along with a couple of German celebrities such as television chef Horst Lichter and actor Ronald Zehrfeld, the guests included custom motorcycle shop Urban Motor. BMW tasked Urban Motor with creating the first custom R nineT to highlight the motorcycle’s potential.

BMW's optional extras are getting ridiculous

The third instalment of the Indian action blockbuster Dhoom became the highest grossing Indian film of all time. More interesting than that are the laughable bike scenes, with Dhoom 3 featuring one chase scene between a K1300R and a S1000RR. In the first Dhoom film a Hayubasu magically transformed into 125cc bike for a train jump.
