This is an excellent 1985 BMW R80. Starts and runs perfect. Smooth idle. Handles fantastically. Transmission shift smoothly through all gears. Looks amazing for the year. Tank has nice shine with beautiful original paint and hand pinstripes. Has a couple tiny dings but overall the bike looks fantastic.
I purchased this from the original owner who took meticulous care of this bike until he stopped riding in 97 and let it sit. I restore vintage BMW's and this one is just too nice to touch so I tuned and am selling as is. We did an overall inspection and tune including head torque, valve adjustment, carburetor sync, timing adjustment, filter replacement, fluid change of engine, transmission, final drive, drive shaft, and forks. Everything was inspected and functions as it should. The previous owner said he replaced the timing chain before parking it. Generally after 60K these machines make some chain clatter. This one sounds nice and tight. Comes with a clear California title in my name in non operational status so no back fees. The only thing I would recommend would be new tires. These will do fine for a while but always nice to upgrade to new. I've decided to let the buyer get tires since everyone has their own favorite type. I can help set the bike up with tires for new buyer for cost. I strongly recommend any local bidders come see it in person. 46,061 Motorcycles Stolen in US in 2012
Mon, 25 Nov 2013An average of 126 motorcycles were stolen in the U.S. every day in 2012, according to a report released by the the National Insurance Crime Bureau. That’s from a total of 46,061 motorcycles reported stolen that year a 1.3% improvement from the 46,667 motorcycles reported stolen in 2011.
