BMW R-Series description

One owner 1983 BMW R80ST

Super low 4479 original miles. This bike has been in storage since 1996. Very desirable model with only about 1000 total 1983 and 84 imported into the US.

Probably one of the lowest mileage original R80ST in the US.

This bike is a stock survivor complete with original owner’s manuals, tool pouch, tools  and air pump and even the factory original tires included.  I just completed doing the full refurbishing / maintenance with replacement of many parts (see full list below) needed to get the bike back on the road.

Complete set of images throughout all the work done captured and documented in Power Point presentation. Bike is running and driving great everything works as it should, mileage may go up slightly as I make final adjustments.

Paint is all original with blemishes and typical fading for this color and age (33 years). Very small dent on gas tank near gas cap can be seen in image.

All parts that were replaced or removed come with the bike (includes the original Michelin tires and factory luggage rack).

Brand new tinted windscreen just installed (spit fire) .

Clear title from original owner with factory owners manual , clymer service manual and special exhaust nut wrench.

  • Fuel filter

  • Fuel lines

  • Oil filter

Motorcycles at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show

Mon, 28 Sep 2009

Two weeks ago, I took a break from my regular duties gathering news for Motorcycle.com to fly to Germany to cover the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show for our sister site AutoGuide.com. For two hectic days, AutoGuide editor Colum Wood and I scrambled across the massive 6.2 million square foot Messe Frankfurt trade fair compound, running from press conference to press conference to get the latest on exotic sport cars, futuristic concept models and international unveilings from the automotive world. It was heaven for car lovers, but for me, it meant fighting my way through hordes of photogs, auto-journalists and car show models to get the first photos of four-wheeled goodies from MINI, Ferrari and Lotus.

BMW Standardizes Switches

Thu, 23 Oct 2008

Whenever you throw your leg over a bike that isn’t your own, there is always a few minutes needed to become familiar with the proportions and controls of the foreign machine. Getting a sense of the clutch release point, brake feel, throttle response and riding position may all differ from what you have been accustomed, but they slowly become second nature after enough seat time is logged. One such control that strays from this rule of thumb is the turn signal operation of many BMWs.
