BMW R-Series description

For sale is my 1968 R50S.  This equates to a 500cc version of the R69S.  A rare model.  It runs and rides superbly.  I have receipts for over $12,000.

Work done and parts included, but not restricted to,  Stage 1 Bonneville Heads ($1250).  Crankshaft rebuild ($1000) with new rods, pins, bearings, cages, balanced and trued.  Lightened and balanced flywheel ($300).  New clutch pressure ring, friction disk, spring pressure plate and diaphragm spring ($385). New Slinger.  Late style rear main bearing carrier ($176).   A "328" camshaft ($275).  Carb rebuild kit ($125).  New R50S pistons from Brooks Motor Works ($450).  Full set of engine bearings ($160).  Carbs modified to 26mm ($250). Petcocks.  Set of 4x 4130 Chrome-Moly pushrods.  Magneto assembly ($400). Wiring harness, Speedometer work. Transmission rebuild bearings and seals. S Air filter and housing and much more!  Low miles since all this work was performed.  Matching frame and engine numbers.
Although the bike is a 1968 model it has all the modifications for an early 1960's R50S. It is the 35 HP engine as apposed to the larger but less powerful 30 HP R60!  It is quite quick for a 500cc and likes to spin a bit. Very smooth and idles superbly. Very quiet motor and no leaks.
As seen in the photo it has a HUGE (8 gallon?) Hoske gas tank in real nice condition, no dents or scratches. A Denfeld folding rear carrier and pillion seat and period rear travel cases on both sides. Mufflers real nice and has the original paintwork on the bike. Original Instruction manual and tool kit.  A real nice tire pump and I believe what is a Bates screen.

Although the bike is not quite up to Museum quality cosmetically, it is in real nice condition and goes very well! Bike can be collected in Western North Carolina. I will assist in any shipping but the cost to be paid by the buyer. Genuine reason for sale.  Start price is $11,000 with no reserve! I will accept a $500 deposit with paypal but the rest must be cash or cashiers check and must be cleared before the bike is released.  It has a clean Florida Certificate of Title signed by the previous owner ready to be transferd to the new owner..  Email me with any questions.

John Surtees to Lead Classic Vehicle Parade Fundraiser

Fri, 03 May 2013

Motorsports legend John Surtees will lead a parade of classic cars and motorcycles – including Surtees’ 1960 500cc Grand Prix Championship-winning MV Agusta – in his home town of Edenbridge, England. Surtees is the only person to have ever won world championships in both Grand Prix motorcycle racing and Formula One, and the parade will feature cars and bikes from his time as both a racer and a racing team owner. Surtees himself will drive the Team Surtees TS7, a F1 car constructed by his own team that debuted at the 1970 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch.

Used Review: Clover GT3 jacket

Fri, 01 Aug 2008

I’ve been wearing this waterproof textile jacket since March and it’s performed very well. The silver colour shows up dirt something rotten, there’s a stark lack of useful pockets and the cut is quite square, but as a jacket to keep the cold and water out it’s been right up to the job. It’s my daily commuting top, one of those jackets you throw on without thinking about it, and now that it’s summer I can’t see the point in getting a replacement anytime soon.

BMW R nineT Track Grinder by Urban Motor

Fri, 06 Dec 2013

Earlier this week, we wrote about BMW inviting some special guests to witness the start of production for its R nineT roadster. Along with a couple of German celebrities such as television chef Horst Lichter and actor Ronald Zehrfeld, the guests included custom motorcycle shop Urban Motor. BMW tasked Urban Motor with creating the first custom R nineT to highlight the motorcycle’s potential.
