The distinguished design, the newly developed DOHC flat-twin engine and the ingenious chassis with Telelever and Paralever make the R 1200 R a genuine Rock’n’Roll Roadster which will get the most out of every road in terms of riding pleasure. Visually speaking, the revision of the R 1200 R is once again a real eye-catcher. The purist lines and the even more refined finish demonstrate the powerful character of the machine. New circular instruments, a new higher-quality fork, the new double-butted aluminium handlebars, beautiful new cast wheels, a chrome manifold as standard and much more besides - all this reflects an attention to detail as far as the eye can see. Especially in the Classic version, with is absolute RocknRoll for the eyes with a wide range of visual highlights such as spoke wheels, chrome features and an attractive paint finish in black and white. The air-cooled two-cylinder twin engine offers not only a new sonorous, throaty sound at a whole new level but also a genuine innovation: after their appearance in the GS and R models, the two overhead camshafts and four radially arranged valves now see their debut here. What is more, output has been increased to 81 kW (110 bhp), with a maximum torque which has also been raised to 119 Nm at 6,000 rpm. BMW Announces Winners of “Ride of Your Life” Tour Contest

BMW Motorrad announced the winners of its “Ride of Your Life” contest, giving five people the chance to travel on a worldwide tour on the new R1200GS. The five winners are Stephanie Rowe, a 25-year-old enduro racer who works in the motorcycle accessories industry in the U.K., Herbert Unger, a 50-year-old German metal worker, Alessio Cigolini, an Italian who loves riding through Tuscany, Salvador Echevarría, a 41-year-old businessman from Spain, and Stephane Gautronneau, a 39-year-old fashion photographer from France. The five winners were selected for their sense of adventure, ability to work as part of a team and physical fitness by a panel of celebrities including actors Adrian Brody, Rick Yune and Charley Boorman and Paris-Dakar winner Jutta Kleinschmidt.

My first meeting with a BMW GS was an unfortunate one. It was going back a few years now (certainly pre-Charlie McGregor era) Having just picked up this new model, I’d ridden 100 miles on a warm summer’s evening to reach my house by dusk. Mindful of the fact that said house contained two frenetic, bark-happy border collies and a small, sleeping child, I cut the ignition, whipped the clutch in and planned a gentle coast up to the area outside my front door.
