Italian manufacturer Bimota celebrates its 40th anniversary this year with a new change in ownership and the EICMA unveiling of the BB3 sportbike. “Bimota is really charming with an incredible brand that deserves to go back to its former glory by combining technological innovation with its rich history of passion, heart and outstanding achievements,” says Marco Chianciani, new president and c0-owner of Bimota with Daniele Longoni. “We are working to organize better all business processes to meet this challenge with the right enthusiasm and preparation.

BMW Design Chief David Robb Steps Down; Edgar Heinrich Named Successor

David Robb, the man responsible for BMW‘s split-face motorcycle design, has left the German manufacturer. A native of Boston, Mass., Robb joined BMW as its design chief in 1993, and over the ensuing 18 years expanded the company’s product line to include the top selling R1200GS, the six-cylinder K1600GT and GTL, and the S1000RR superbike (that’s him on the far right in the picture above). The 56-year-old’s latest design to enter production are the C600 Sport and C650GT maxi-scooters.

The annual Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este usually features some of the world’s most beautiful classic cars, but this year’s show had a special exhibit celebrating the 90th anniversary of BMW Motorrad. More than 6,000 people visited the BMW Group-organized Concorso d’Eleganza on the shore of Italy’s Lake Como. The BMW Motorrad exhibit featured some of the company’s most notable motorcycles spanning 90 years of history including the original BMW R32 that started it all in 1923.
