BMW Other description

For sale here is my beautiful 1972 CJ-750 sidecar motorcycle. Licensed, titled and registered in USA, this bike has been lovingly rebuilt and features the M1S, 32HP, overhead valve engine with electric start and kick starter. Gearbox is four speed plus reverse. Modern upgrades include Mikuni carburetors, aluminum wheels, front disc brake on bike, drum brake on sidecar and solid state ignition (still has points for timing but ignition condenser has been replaced with SS unit in headlamp bell). This bike has a 12V electrical system with a new (2015) lithium battery. She is in excellent condition and as you can see from the photos, is a real head turner. Tires are like new. Included in this sale are a pair of spare carburetors, spare wheel spokes, full set of wheel bearings (all three wheels plus spare), ignition coil, plug wires, spark plugs and clutch cable. Mileage shown in photo (2,173km/ 1,350mi) is original mileage since complete rebuilt and is subject to change as the bike is still being ridden locally.

The Chang Jiang 750 traces its lineage to pre-war Germany with the BMW R71. Prior to the German invasion, the Russians were already building their own copies of the BMW R71 and the Chinese, with the help of their Russian Comrades, began production of the CJ750 for their military in the 1950s. Parts for these bikes are extremely readily available and servicing them is a snap- they were designed to be field serviceable by soldiers on the battlefield after all.

The sale and transfer of this bike is on an "AS IS" basis, without any express or implied warranties, and no recourse to the Seller.  A $500 deposit is required within 24 hours of the auction closing, with the remaining balance to be paid in full within seven days of auction end. The buyer is responsible for shipping/transport- I will assist buyer in arranging for a suitable company for pickup and delivery at the buyers expense.

Ridden: BMW R1200GS Adventure

Fri, 07 Oct 2011

My first meeting with a BMW GS was an unfortunate one. It was going back a few years now (certainly pre-Charlie McGregor era) Having just picked up this new model, I’d ridden 100 miles on a warm summer’s evening to reach my house by dusk. Mindful of the fact that said house contained two frenetic, bark-happy border collies and a small, sleeping child, I cut the ignition, whipped the clutch in and planned a gentle coast up to the area outside my front door.

BMW 1000RR and the Honda C70, are they indestructible?

Wed, 20 Apr 2011

I’ve managed 1374 miles on the Michelin Power Pures (mostly on track) and although we’ve had some decent temperatures they still look like new so there’s plenty meat left for another month at least. I’ve been running them at 30psi front and 32psi rear and find they warm up after a few miles but I wouldn’t say the temperature comes any quicker than any of the competition so it has to be four miles before I get brave. I’ve had a few out the seat moments with my BMW but I have got the rear suspension  set pretty hard (8 rebound,8 compression, two turns on pre load) and in slick mode, so 190bhp in first gear at the Knockhill hairpin is always going to be dodgy.

McQueen’s Husky on the Auction Block

Fri, 16 Nov 2012

Thirty-two years after his death, Steve McQueen still reigns as the coolest movie star to ever ride a motorcycle. One of his preferred brands was Husqvarna (another, seen here, was Triumph) and to the delight of motorcycle enthusiasts and McQueen fans alike, one of his bikes will soon be in the hands of a new owner. This 1970 Husqvarna 400 Cross owned and ridden by Steve McQueen will be up for auction on January 10th, at Bally’s Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, by Bonhams. The motorcycle comes with an exhaustive quantity of documents supporting its provenance and authenticity.
