Lightweight (412lbs wet), nimble, comfortable upright seated position, fast-revving, high-torque with plenty of power, yet fuel efficient (45-71mpg). Low-maintenance belt drive.

PERKS: Brembo ABS brakes, heated grips (replaced in 2008), upgraded Remus Titan Revolution muffler (stock provided, if you prefer the more quiet BMW hum), Wunderlich adjustable clutch lever, battery hook-up cable for Battery Tender or heated clothing, fuel pump replaced at 20,000 miles, along with recall work to install rubber cover over pump (you get spare fuel pump), power socket (cigarette lighter-style) near ignition for charging gadgets, two copies of OEM BMW Service Manual and burned CD, two cut keys & two blanks, two spare oil filters, rear luggage grid, soft Tourmaster rear bag, soft Nelson-Rigg saddle bags. Ever since Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman rode their BMW’s around the world it seems anyone with a ‘GS’ has an open ticket to ride around the world and then write about it. And fair enough, if I could afford the bike and the trip then I’d be gone as well. Obviously, BMW reaped the rewards when Ewan and Charlie showcased what their GS could really do, changing BMW’s image from solid but stuffy, to solid and cool overnight.

EICMA 2012: BMW Motorrad Celebrates 90th Anniversary with Special Edition R1200GS, R1200R and R1200RT

BMW announced it will introduce an all-new Boxer to celebrate its 90th year of motorcycle production, but you didn’t think the German manufacturer would stop there without a couple of other special edition models, did you? To mark the anniversary, BMW revealed special edition “90 Jahre BMW Motorrad” versions of its R1200GS adventure bike, R1200R roadster and R1200RT tourer in Milan at the 2012 EICMA Show. All three models come in a Sapphire Black Metallic color with matte black engines, gold anodized suspension and brakes, and asphalt gray metallic swingarms, trailing arms and rear frames, and granite gray metallic cylinder head covers, and a nickel-plated polished brass plate on the upper fork.

BMW and Husqvarna to Unveil Concept Models at Frankfurt Auto Show

BMW will unveil an electric scooter concept model and an entry level Husqvarna streetbike concept at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. The BMW concept, shown in the teaser sketch above, will likely be a version of the E-Scooter electric maxiscooter concept announced in July. BMW claimed the E-Scooter’s liquid-cooled electric motor offers performance similar to a 600cc combustion engine, while the battery casing itself will form the body of the frame.
